Burnley

Once again relegation from the Premier League is going to mean changes in the managerial department for Burnley who agreed to a mutual termination with immediate effect with Scott Parker. He is unlikely to be given an opportunity like the one Vincent Kompany fashioned for himself, but Parker is a Championship specialist and so a big decision will need to be made by Burnley's board.

It has been a disappointing campaign for Burnley who are 19th in the Premier League table and with just 20 points on the board, which meant offering little resistance and being the only one of the three promoted clubs that is going to be returning to the second tier. The 2-5-10 record at Turf Moor was never going to be enough for Burnley in their battle to avoid the drop.

Burnley have won none of the last 10 games played in all competitions and they have suffered 5 straight Premier League defeats to drop out of the Division without much resistance. The 0-1 loss to Manchester City makes it 5 defeats in 6 at Turf Moor in all competitions.

Axel Tuanzebe and Connor Roberts are hoping to be available this weekend.

Aston Villa

Two relatively poor performances in a row will have frustrated Unai Emery and his Aston Villa team had been booed off days before they were set to face Nottingham Forest in the Europa League Semi Final Second Leg. The experience of Emery means the Europa League is a competition that Aston Villa have taken seriously all season and the thumping 4-0 win on Thursday has guided them through to the Final to be played in a little under two weeks time.

Winning silverware for the first time since the 1996 League Cup would be a huge achievement for Aston Villa and would mark a return to the Champions League, but the manager will want to secure that place regardless of the outcome of the Europa League Final. The Villans are 5th in the Premier League table and 6 points clear of 6th placed Bournemouth and the manager has made it clear he wants his team to produce two big League performances before thinking about European success.

Aston Villa had lost 3 straight games in all competitions and had only scored once in that run, but the thumping win over Nottingham Forest should have everyone in the squad feeling that much better. The recent away form is something of a concern with Aston Villa winning once in the last 5 on their travels in all competitions, while they have lost 3 of the last 4 away Premier League games.

Amadou Onana is set to miss out again, but the hope will be that he can return in time for the Europa League Final.

Head to Head

Aston Villa beat Burnley 2-1 at home earlier this season.

They have won on 3 of the last 4 visits to Turf Moor, including consecutive 1-3 victories here.

Prediction

Playing on Thursday night in a big emotional setting can make things difficult when returning to Premier League action, but Aston Villa did not have to travel in the Europa League.

Beating Nottingham Forest and earning a spot in the Final of that competition has to have given the players a lift after 3 straight defeats and Unai Emery will want Aston Villa to retain some momentum.

Three League games remain and Aston Villa are favourites to secure a Champions League berth by finishing in the top five, but things could become a bit more awkward if they are not able to win on Sunday.

Losing at home to Tottenham Hotspur last weekend has kept the door slightly ajar for those chasing Aston Villa, but this looks to be the ideal opponent against whom they can bounce back and pick up three priceless points.

The key is for Aston Villa to come out with some intensity which was lacking against Spurs until it was too late.

Facing a Burnley team that has seen Scott Parker depart and with players feeling a little uncertain about their futures should give Aston Villa the edge they need to find a big away result. In recent weeks the team have struggled on their travels, but Burnley have lost a lot of focus as relegation became an inevitability and they have been beaten in 5 of the last 6 at Turf Moor.

It has been a struggle for Burnley at both ends of the pitch and that is something that Aston Villa should be able to exploit.

Aston Villa have lacked some real ruthlessness in the final third in recent games, but the four goals scored against Nottingham Forest should have everyone feeling better. This is a club that have enjoyed recent visits to Turf Moor and the expectation is that Aston Villa will have too much for the hosts and can win a game in which they score at least twice.
