However, it now appears to be advantage Southampton as The Saints now hold home advantage at St Marys Stadium in Tuesday night’s 2nd leg courtesy of finishing higher than Middlesbrough at the end of the regular season.

Nevertheless, Middlesbrough bring a six-game unbeaten run on their travels into this upcoming clash which includes wins on the road at Birmingham City and QPR, but the bigger picture shows Boro have managed to capture just two victories from their last 11 matches in the Championship.

Both of these wins were achieved at the Riverside Stadium where they accounted for the likes of Watford and Sheffield Wednesday, both of whom finished in the bottom half of the Championship table.
