2026-05-12 - Aberdeen vs St Mirren

A Sports Betting Preview by Auls

Aberdeen v St Mirren
Football: Scottish Premiership Relegation Group
Tuesday 12th May 2026 - Kick Off 7:45pm

Aberdeen

With safety secured this past weekend, Aberdeen will already be thinking ahead to next season and improving on what has been a difficult campaign all around. Failing to finish in the Championship Group of the Scottish Premiership will have been a big disappointment and Aberdeen have already announced that a couple of key players will be shut down for the remaining two League fixtures.

The ambition may still remain to finish 7th in the final standings, but Stephen Robinson already has one eye on June and the pre-season with Aberdeen missing out on European Football. The manager believes that could aid his team, but recruiting more quality is also something Robinson hopes to see. The Dons have a 7-5-6 record at Pittodrie this season where they have scored 28 goals and conceded 21.

Aberdeen are unbeaten in 4 Premiership games and they have produced 3 wins in that time, which will have given the squad a lift in confidence. The win over Dundee United here this past weekend means Aberdeen have won 3 League games in a row at Pittodrie and all with clean sheets.

Dimitar Mitov and Stuart Armstrong will miss the remaining two games having started against Dundee United.

St Mirren

Things have spiralled for St Mirren since former manager Stephen Robinson left to take over as manager of Aberdeen in March and another defeat on Saturday has left them on the brink of having to play the Relegation Play Off. Losing any fixture would have stung at this stage of the season, but losing to Kilmarnock at home feels like a dagger in their bid to climb out of the bottom two.

They play the last away game of the season in 11th place in the Scottish Premiership standings and St Mirren are now 4 points behind the aforementioned Kilmarnock. The side have a 2-4-12 record away from home in this Division and St Mirren have scored 17 goals and conceded 33 in those matches.

St Mirren fought back from 2-0 behind against Celtic in the Scottish Cup Semi Final, but were eventually beaten 6-2 After Extra Time last month. They have shown little of that grit and determination in recent Premiership outings and St Mirren's loss to Kilmarnock means they have lost 4 in a row in the League. St Mirren have lost 5 of the last 7 away League games and have failed to score in back to back fixtures.

Craig McLeish was far from happy with the last performance and that may see him make changes to the starting eleven.

Head to Head

This will be the fourth meeting between the teams this season and both Aberdeen and St Mirren have won once each previously.

The only game hosted by Aberdeen ended in a 3-3 draw.

Aberdeen have only won 1 of the last 4 at home against St Mirren.

Prediction

With the goal difference where it currently stands, all of the pressure is on St Mirren to beat former manager Stephen Robinson's new team and hope that is enough to give them hope of climbing out of the bottom two in the last game of the campaign.

However, the 0-3 defeat to Kilmarnock means another victory for the latter on Tuesday will place St Mirren into the Relegation Play Off later this month.

Aberdeen have no such concerns, but Robinson will want his team to finish with a flourish and use the momentum for early successes in the 2026/27 campaign.

The momentum is certainly with Aberdeen and the final home game of the season is usually a big occasion for teams, even at the end of an underachieving campaign.

Some players are going to be given a rest over the last week of the season, but the layers are perhaps anticipating wholesale changes from the home team.

While some changes will be made, Stephen Robinson will want his team to keep a positive mood through the off-season and the pricing may also have something to do with the 'desperation' of St Mirren.

However, 4 League losses in a row and the heavy defeat to 10th placed Kilmarnock at home will have deflated St Mirren and they may already be mentally preparing for the Relegation Play Off tie coming up later this month.
