St.Pauli is in awful form, going winless in 9 Bundesliga matches and losing all of their last three. Now they have no other option but to win against Wolfsburg and hope to end up in the relegation playoffs.

Some encouragement for them is the fact that they picked up 17 of their 26 points at home. But that doesn’t mean much now, as St.Pauli failed to win any of their last five games in front of their fans, drawing 3 and losing 2.

Wolfsburg picked up vital points recently, beating Union Berlin and drawing with Borussia Mönchengladbach and SC Freiburg.

They lost 0-1 to Bayern Munich last week, but a win here would secure them two relegation playoff games against the third 2.Bundesliga side.

Wolfsburg also has reasons for optimism in front of this trip – they were better away than at home. 16 of their 26 points came away from home. They beat Union Berlin and drew against SC Freiburg in their most recent two trips, which will further motivate them here.

The Betting Verdict

For the first time in Bundesliga history, the bottom three teams are level on points entering the last round.

For St.Pauli to end up in promotion/relegation playoffs, they must beat Wolfsburg, and Heidenheim must not win against Mainz.

If both St.Pauli and Heidenheim win, St.Pauli will still end up in the playoffs, but only if they have a better result than Heidenheim against Mainz.

Based on what I have seen this season, I doubt St.Pauli will win the most important and final game of the season. The pressure is too high, plus they have not won in 9 straight games.

However, I am not certain of Wolfsburg’s skills either. They had many chances before, yet were dismal. Plus, they have a very leaky defense – 68 goals conceded in 33 games is their worst defensive record ever.

I simply cannot see this game ending goalless. No way. Both sides must push hard to win, which will open things up. One ear will be on the other game, Heidenheim vs. Mainz, but regardless of what happens there, goals look guaranteed in this game.

If you want higher odds, go with Wolfsburg to win. But my main betting recommendation here is taking both teams to score.
