Brentford

If Manchester City win the FA Cup, 8th place in the Premier League will have European Football attached to it, but there is still a hope for Brentford fans that two wins could see them push into a position even higher than their current place in the standings. No matter what, it has been a hugely successful season for Keith Andrews and his Brentford team and the fans should give them a big sendoff in the last home game of the season.

The Bees are 8th in the Premier League table after losing at Manchester City last weekend, while both Brighton and Bournemouth moved past them with victories. They have an 8-7-3 record at the Gtech Community Stadium this season and Brentford have scored 31 goals and conceded 19 in those matches.

Brentford have only won 1 of the last 9 games in all competitions, although the flip side of the coin is that they had lost 1 of the previous 9 in all competitions before the heavy defeat at the Etihad Stadium. The side had been held to 3 straight draws at home, but Brentford ended that run in the 3-0 win over West Ham United at the beginning of the month.

Rico Henry is hoping to be available for the last home game of the campaign.

Crystal Palace

Oliver Glasner has reminded the press that his salary is paid by Crystal Palace and not Arsenal or Manchester City as he continues to be asked about his team selections in the final Premier League games of the campaign. In reality the focus for Crystal Palace is being prepared for the Conference League Final, but a strong team travelled to Manchester City on Wednesday.

That did not stop the home team from running out comfortable winners and it leaves Crystal Palace in 15th place in the Division, but with that Conference League Final coming up. The Eagles conclude the away campaign in the English top flight and Crystal Palace travel to West London with a 7-2-9 away record.

Crystal Palace have not won any of the last 5 Premier League games and they have suffered 3 defeats in that time following the 3-0 loss at Manchester City. As stated in that preview last week, Crystal Palace have been a little more vulnerable on their travels and they have lost the last 4 away games in all competitions, while beating Shakhtar Donetsk on a neutral field during that time.

Both Borna Sosa and Evann Guessand are closing on a return and may need some minutes in the final two games before the big European Final. Some changes will be made to freshen up the starting eleven.

Head to Head

Crystal Palace finished up 2-0 winners against Brentford at Selhurst Park earlier this season.

Brentford are unbeaten in 7 when hosting Crystal Palace, while the 2-1 win last season ended a run of 3 consecutive draws between the clubs at this ground.

Prediction

A final home game of the season gives the supporters an opportunity to show their gratitude to the performance of the players and the management staff.

For Brentford fans, this is going to be a celebration of the season that Keith Andrews has put together, but many will be hoping that Manchester City have won the FA Cup and opened up 8th place for European Football.

They will have seen the fun that Crystal Palace fans have had in Europe this season and the Conference League Final continues to be a big distraction for the away team.

Performances at home have remained solid, but Crystal Palace use the motivation of the crowd to push forward and it has been much more difficult to focus when travelling.

The Eagles do not have a long journey on Sunday, but they were beaten pretty handily at Manchester City on Wednesday and that makes it 4 straight away defeats in all competitions. Beating Shakhtar Donetsk on neutral field during that time will have given the squad a boost, but Crystal Palace have conceded a lot of away goals in recent outings and they are going to be tested by a Brentford team chasing a top eight finish at the very least.

In fact Brentford are still looking further up the League standings and this is a team that have remained very strong at home.

Working out motivation at this stage of the season is one challenge, but the other is figuring how much stock to place in those motivations.

Brentford will simply want to end the season at the Gtech Community Stadium with another big performance and they could have a little too much for a Crystal Palace team that have struggled in recent away games.

Keith Andrews has set his team up to continue to create positive situations in the final third and it feels like a fixture in which the home team can score twice in a winning effort.
