Leeds United
Despite being mathematically safe from the drop before kick off, Leeds United played with pride and intensity and deserved to avoid defeat at Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night. Daniel Farke will be hoping to be backed by the recruitment team in the summer to build on what has been a very successful season and the fans are sure to get behind the manager and the team in the last home game of the season.
They are 14th in the Premier League table, but Leeds United have had a very strong second half of the campaign and that includes reaching the FA Cup Semi Final. The side have an 8-5-5 record at Elland Road this season where Leeds United have scored 28 goals and conceded 21.
Leeds United have only lost 1 of the last 10 games in all competitions, although that was the FA Cup Semi Final defeat to Chelsea last month. They will be looking to conclude the home schedule by extending the 4 game unbeaten run here and Leeds United have won 3 of those fixtures, including consecutive Premier League wins.
Jayden Bogle, Gabriel Gudmundsson and Noah Okafor are all doubts. Pascal Struijk came off with an injury last Monday and is another who may struggle to be passed fit in time for this last home fixture.
Brighton
With the way things have been shaking up in the Premier League, Brighton could yet earn a spot in the Champions League if they are able to finish 5th in the final standings. Fabian Hurzeler will have been very pleased with the performance in the 3-0 win over Wolves last weekend, but there are two difficult fixtures to negotiate before the end of the season.
The Seagulls are 7th in the Premier League standings and any European Football earned for next season would be seen as a successful campaign. They are 2 points behind Bournemouth in 6th place, but Brighton play first this weekend and take a 5-5-8 away record to Yorkshire.
Brighton's win over Wolves means they have won 5 of the last 7 Premier League games and only been beaten once in that time. However, that defeat was in the last away League game at Newcastle United and Brighton needed an injury time equaliser to earn a 2-2 draw at Tottenham Hotspur prior to that.
Mats Wieffer and Diego Gomez are both hoping to be available for selection. Kaoru Mitoma is a doubt and his attention may be in proving his fitness ahead of the World Cup.
Head to Head
Brighton thumped Leeds United 3-0 at the Amex Stadium earlier this season.
Leeds United have not won any of the last 3 when hosting Brighton, although the last 2 have both ended in draws.
Prediction
There are always going to be questions about the motivation of teams at this stage of the season and especially once main ambitions have been met.
Daniel Farke would have been proud of the efforts of his Leeds United players on Monday night, despite having safety confirmed twenty-four hours earlier. Relegation may not have been a concern, but the intensity did not drop and Leeds United maintained the long unbeaten away run and look to be finishing the season with a strong, positive momentum behind them.
Playing the final home game should be motivation enough for the players and the fans are going to make it a loud, vibrant atmosphere for Leeds United.
A couple of key players are absent, but Leeds United still create chances and the system change implemented by the manager back in December has paid dividends. They have looked better at both ends of the field and Leeds United will cause Brighton a lot of problems, although the visiting team will be confident in their own qualities.
Brighton are still in a position to finish in the top six, but the last couple of away Premier League games have been more problematic.
Scoring goals and creating chances has not been the issue, but Brighton have looked vulnerable when teams have come after them and they will know they are going to be put under the cosh by Leeds United.
Both teams are capable of scoring goals and there is reason to believe that this will be a fixture that features at least three goals.
Leeds United have been resilient, but the pressure is off the players and they can express themselves, while they will always want to get on the front foot at home. That should help Brighton, who have pace and quality in the final third, and Fabian Hurzeler's men have been involved in high-scoring games over the last few weeks.
An early goal could open this fixture up and backing goals, rather than a side, may be the best approach to take.
