They not only have the best record in the Major Leagues, but the Atlanta Braves (34-16) are also making an early statement in 2026 in their bid to return to the post-season. Last year was a disappointing one as they finished ten games below 0.500 and missed the Playoffs for the first time since 2017, but the Braves definitely felt like a team that underperformed.

The early moves of 2026 has helped them open up a 9 game lead at the top of the National League East and the Atlanta Braves are looking to win this four game set.

It was the Miami Marlins (22-28) who took the opener on Monday, but the Atlanta Braves have outscored them 17-5 in the last two games and are sending a pitcher to the mound who continues to have huge potential.

Spencer Strider has a 1-0 record and 2.45 ERA from the three starts made this season and could become a huge part of the starting rotation for the Braves. The first three seasons in the Major Leagues showed what Strider could do, but injuries have held him back and restricted him to twenty-five starts in the last two seasons and also delayed his first start of 2026.

He is still young enough to have a hugely successful Major League career and Spencer Strider has bounced back from what was a tough opening start. In the last two, Strider has given up a single run in over 11 Innings thrown, while he allowed a single run in 7 Innings thrown against the Miami Marlins last year.

The batting lineup are certainly showing plenty of hot form in the last couple of days to believe they can back up the starting pitcher, although the Marlins will feel Sandy Alcantara will have something to say about that.

The 30 year old has a 3-2 record and 3.53 ERA from ten starts made in 2026 and that includes throwing one Complete Game. Sandy Alcantara produced a memorable 2022, but the last three seasons have been more mixed with an injury in 2024 and it was something of a surprise that the Miami Marlins held onto him at the trade deadline last year.

Barring an improvement in form over the next couple of months from the team, Sandy Alcantara may once again be producing at a level that a contender will be interested in acquiring.

Earlier this month, Sandy Alcantara was roughed up by the Baltimore Orioles and allowed seven runs without getting out of the 5th Inning, but he has bounced back in his last two starts. In those, Alcantara has allowed just two earned runs across 12 Innings thrown, although the pitcher has not factored into the decision in any of the last four starts.

Last season Sandy Alcantara finished with a 1-1 record from three starts against the Braves. He was 1-0 in the two home starts having allowed five runs in 13 Innings thrown against this Divisional rival, although Sandy Alcantara allowed that same number of runs in the one road start against the Braves.

The Braves have now won six of the last eight in this series with the Miami Marlins.

Prediction

Both starting pitchers can be very strong on their day, but it is the National League East leading Atlanta Braves who come into this final game of a four game set with the bats in hotter form.

That may be key once the bullpens are employed and the Braves can get the better of the Miami Marlins for a third time in a row.
