West Ham United

Nuno Espirito Santo has to be very disappointed it took his West Ham United squad a little too long to get with the tactical program and the 3-1 loss at St James' Park felt like a fatal blow to their chances of avoiding the drop. Rivals Chelsea have done West Ham United a favour, but they need more help and ultimately The Hammers have to make sure they win this fixture at the very least.

They will head into the final day of the Premier League season in 18th place in the standings and West Ham United are 2 points behind Tottenham Hotspur and with a massively inferior goal difference. The only realistic way they can survive is beating Leeds United and improving the 5-4-9 record at the London Stadium and hoping Everton can beat Tottenham Hotspur in North London at the same time.

West Ham United will have a tough time just doing their part as they have won 1 of the last 5 Premier League games in a row and have lost the last 3 in succession. They had beaten Wolves and Everton in consecutive home Premier League games and been unbeaten in 6 League fixtures at the London Stadium, but West Ham United's run was ended in a 0-1 defeat to Arsenal earlier this month.

Adama Traore may be available for this last fixture of the campaign.

Leeds United

Daniel Farke has been praised by the Leeds United supporters for comfortably keeping the club in the Premier League and the manager is in a position of strength. That is perhaps the main reason he felt he could come out to the press and urge the board to back him as Farke looks to push Leeds United forward and a big summer is coming up for manager, board and club.

After bringing Leeds United back into the top flight and keeping them up, Daniel Farke has stated the project he came in for has been completed and a new ambition has to be set. They are 14th in the Premier League table and 11 points clear of the relegation zone, but Farke wants Leeds United to look upwards and not be focusing on simply avoiding the drop in the years ahead. The side will conclude this campaign in East London and Leeds United have a 2-9-7 away record.

Leeds United are unbeaten in 8 Premier League games and the sole defeat in that time came in the FA Cup Semi Final against Chelsea when the team will have felt they did enough to at least force Extra Time. The side are unbeaten in 7 away Premier League games and Leeds United have fought back for draws at Bournemouth and Tottenham Hotspur since winning at Old Trafford.

It has been a long season and the likes of Jayden Bogle, Gabriel Gudmundsson, Facundo Buonanotte, Brendan Aaronson, Anton Stach and Noah Okafor are all doubts.

Head to Head

Leeds United beat West Ham United 2-1 at home in the Premier League back in October.

These teams met here in the FA Cup Quarter Final in early April and Leeds United conceded twice in injury time, but eventually prevailed on Penalties.

West Ham United had beaten Leeds United in 3 of the previous 4 home games in all competitions before the 2-2 draw in April.

Prediction

Another team 'needing' three points have been priced at odds on to win this Sunday, but it feels like a big ask for West Ham United.

3 Premier League defeats in a row have left them on the brink of relegation and West Ham United have struggled for the balance needed at both ends of the pitch.

They had been unbeaten in 6 home Premier League games before the loss to Arsenal, while West Ham United had won back to back fixtures at the London Stadium, but they will need to make a fast start in this one.

Nuno Espirito Santo's men have one last chance in their bid to avoid the drop, but it feels like West Ham United are going to need to score early and try and shift the pressure onto Tottenham Hotspur who are playing 12 miles away in North London.

That pressure may leave West Ham United exposed at times if they are taking risks and this Leeds United team have proven to be a stubborn opponent.

In April they scored twice here and led 0-2 in the FA Cup Quarter Final, while comfortably being the better team, although conceding twice in injury time will have hurt. However, it is the kind of performance that makes Leeds United dangerous, while they are unbeaten in 7 away Premier League games and prevented Tottenham Hotspur from picking up three home points earlier this month.

Daniel Farke has challenged the board to build on this campaign and his squad is injury hit, but Leeds United showed they can be resilient in the battling, fortunate 1-0 win over Brighton last weekend. That is another positive result since Leeds United confirmed their place in the top flight for another season and they will become very dangerous if the home team are in a position where the desperation sees them take one too many risks.

An early goal for Tottenham Hotspur would really change the atmosphere around the London Stadium and you can envision a situation where the West Ham United players may drop their heads.

They certainly cannot play with the same lack of intensity shown at St James' Park last Sunday.

It was a performance that felt like the West Ham United belief in avoiding relegation had almost certainly dissipated and Leeds United are very capable of picking up a positive result here for the second time since the March international break.
