Having each won their respective domestic top flight titles this season with PSG winning the French Ligue 1 trophy along with Arsenal winning the English Premier league crown, this upcoming encounter really is worthy of a Champions League final as the winner takes all at the Puskás Aréna next Saturday evening.

PSG saw off the plucky challenge from surprise package, Lens, in this season’s Ligue 1 campaign with the Paris club taking the title by a six-point margin in a campaign which saw Luis Enrique’s side collect 24 wins within their total of 34 league matches played.

On the continent though, PSG were less convincing in the group phase of the Champions League as the French outfit finished a disappointing 11th in the table and some 10 points behind the group winners and Saturday’s opponents, Arsenal, which meant a play-off tie against fellow Ligue 1 side, Monaco.

PSG overcame Monaco in an eventful two-leg clash, winning 5-4 on aggregate before seeing off Chelsea 8-2 on aggregate in the round of 16. 2-0 wins in both home and away legs accounted for Liverpool in the quarter-finals, while a tight semi-final with Bayern Munich saw PSG edge it 6-5 on aggregate.

Arsenal meanwhile finished top of the Champions League group phase table with an impressive 100% winning record as The Gunners collected eight wins on the trot which duly booked their automatic place in the round of 16.

In-between Champions League commitments, Mikel Arteta’s side were also locked in a two-horse race for the domestic Premier League title with Manchester City but despite City’s customary impressive late surge in the season run-in, Arsenal held their nerve to take the coveted title last weekend.

On the European front, Arsenal accounted for Bayer Leverkusen 3-1 on aggregate in the round of 16 and Sporting CP 1-0 over two legs in the quarter-finals before edging out La Liga opponents, Atletico Madrid 2-1 on aggregate in a tense semi-final affair.

The Betting Verdict

Recent previous exchanges between PSG and Arsenal have resulted in the French club coming out on top, winning the last two meetings on the trot by 2-1 and 1-0 victories respectively.

PSG may just have the edge over The Gunners once again next Saturday evening too.
