Preview
Most fans of North American sports will only be thinking of the NBA Finals Game 4 comeback, but this Major League Baseball series had a big one of its own on Wednesday evening.
While a regular season game in June in baseball cannot be measured against a NBA Finals game on the same night in terms of importance, it was still a real surprise to see the Los Angeles Dodgers (43-25) blow a five run lead at the bottom of the 7th Inning.
They will be looking to bounce back against the Pittsburgh Pirates (35-33) in the final game of this three game set as both teams look to continue to push through injuries.
The Pirates will hand the ball to Mitch Keller in this game and the starting pitcher has put together a 5-3 record and 4.81 ERA in thirteen outings for Pittsburgh this season. He has never become the kind of form on the mound that some may have expected, but Mitch Keller has remained pretty consistent and will always be the subject of trade rumours around the middle of the regular season.
It may not be the case in 2026 if the Pittsburgh Pirates can maintain a winning record through to the middle of next month, but Keller will still be looking to improve his ERA.
Mitch Keller has been fighting through a difficult stretch and he has a 1-2 record and 8.31 ERA in his last five starts, while allowing at least six runs in back to back starts. Those consecutive starts has seen Mitch Keller fail to get through 5 Innings and this may not be an ideal match up for him.
In six career starts against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Mitch Keller has a reasonable 2-3 record, but a 6.59 ERA.
The Dodgers are looking to bounce back after throwing away the game on Wednesday and they will hand the ball to Justin Wrobleski who is in just his third year in the Major Leagues. The relatively inexperienced pitcher has been plugged into the starting rotation as Los Angeles have dealt with injuries, but Wrobleski has grown into the role.
Justin Wrobleski has a 7-2 record and 2.62 ERA in eleven appearances this season and ten of those have been in starts. In his first two years in the Major League, Wrobleski had made just eight starts in total, but he has retained his spot in the rotation in 2026 thanks to the level of performances being provided.
This will be the first start against the Pirates, but Justin Wrobleski should be plenty confident having given up a single run in the last two starts, which have covered 13 Innings. There have been some inconsistent performances thrown in, which is not a surprise, but Wrobleski will be pitching with some confidence and momentum.
Prediction
After blowing the middle of this three game set, the Los Angeles Dodgers should be more focused all around and they have the edge on the starting mound.
The relievers blew the Wednesday game, but everyone can rally together for a win on Thursday.
