Switzerland were expected to begin Group B with an easy victory over Qatar but had to settle for a frustrating 1-1 draw despite dominating the match.

Murat Yakin's side produced 26 attempts on goal, one of their highest totals at a World Cup, yet a very late defensive lapse cost them two valuable points.

The Swiss remain the strongest team in the group on paper, however. Granit Xhaka continues to dictate the tempo in midfield, while Manuel Akanji anchors a defense that conceded only two goals throughout qualifying.

The performance against Qatar was disappointing, but there was enough chance creation to suggest a reaction is likely.

Bosnia-Herzegovina

Bosnia-Herzegovina also opened with a draw, sharing the points with Canada after another resilient performance.

Sergej Barbarez has built a side that is difficult to break down, and while 40-year-old Edin Džeko is no longer at his peak, he remains the focal point of almost everything Bosnia-Herzgovina do in attack.

The Bosnians have embraced the underdog role throughout this cycle. They are unlikely to dominate possession here, but their organization and experience make them awkward opponents for anyone in the group.

The Betting Verdict

All teams sit on one point, which makes this group very interesting. It will likely go to the final round, but some things may become clearer after this round.

Switzerland should have won their opener and arguably played better football than the scoreline suggested.

Bosnia-Herzegovina are capable of making life difficult, but the Swiss possess more quality and should create enough chances to eventually break through.

I feel another low-scoring game is on the cards, and believe the Swiss will win at decent odds.
