Brazil’s superior goal difference separated the Selecao from 2nd placed Morocco at the top of the final Group C standings thanks to their back-to-back 3-0 wins over Haiti and Scotland respectively, handing the South American nation a seven-point haul from their three group matches.

Japan finished runners-up behind the winners, Netherlands, in Group F as the Samurai Blue remained unbeaten throughout the group campaign which consisted of picking up points in draws with Netherlands 2-2 and Sweden 1-1 along with a resounding 4-0 romp over Tunisia in between the stalemates.

They too bring a solid and impressive sequence of results into this round of last 32 against Brazil as Hajime Moriyasu’s side are now unbeaten in each of their last 10 internationals overall, collecting no fewer than seven wins in the process.

Within this period, Japan recorded wins against the likes of Brazil and England and the Asian giants must be respected as they line-up against their South American counterparts on Monday lunchtime.
