The record is not going to offer a lot of encouragement, but winning a series against the Atlanta Braves has given the San Francisco Giants (35-48) a lift and hope that the season can yet be turned around. Those two wins have lifted the Giants past the Colorado Rockies in the National League West, but they have 9 games to make up on the Wild Card places in this League.

Winners in four of the last six games, the San Francisco Giants will be looking to keep the momentum going against Divisional rivals Arizona Diamondbacks (41-42) who have slipped back under 0.500 after losing all three games on the road against the Tampa Bay Rays.

However, Arizona remain just 3 games out of the Wild Card places and this is a team that has been much better at home than on the road.

During that run of starts, Eduardo Rodriguez has picked up a decision win over the San Francisco Giants when holding them to two runs in 6 Innings pitched on the road.

The Giants had opposed him with Tyler Mahle that day and they will turn back to this pitcher who has a 1-7 record and 5.49 ERA in twelve starts made. This is the first season in the San Francisco uniform and Mahle is projecting to finish with his worst ERA in the Major League and will need to show improvement quickly to retain his spot in the starting rotation.

A run of four starts at the end of May ended with Tyler Mahle holding a 0-3 record and 7.84 ERA and the team decided to give him a month off to rest a hamstring issue. It may have worked if his start last week is any indication as Tyler Mahle kept the Athletics scoreless into the 6th Inning, although he did not factor into the final decision.

That poor four game run in May included Tyler Mahle facing the Arizona Diamondbacks twice and he allowed nine runs in 10 Innings thrown and too the decision loss both times. The second of the starts was better than the first, which is encouraging, but also means Mahle is 0-3 with a 3.38 ERA in seven starts against Arizona.

In recent head to heads between these National League West rivals, the Arizona Diamondbacks have dominated and that includes winning all six games played so far in 2026.

Prediction

The momentum is with the San Francisco Giants after performances this past weekend, but Arizona Diamondbacks play with a lot more confidence at home.

Eduardo Rodriguez can lay down a strong platform for his team, while the Arizona batting lineup may be able to get after Tyler Mahle for a third time this season.

It may just swing the pendulum back behind the Diamondbacks, who have dominated the San Francisco Giants in recent meetings, and Arizona can get themselves back up to 0.500.
