Switzerland made the most of being in arguably one of the weaker groups during the group stage of this edition of the World Cup as the Nati finished top of the table and remained unbeaten throughout their three matches.

In a group comprising of co-hosts, Canada, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Qatar, Murat Yakin’s side picked up two wins and a draw to claim a seven-point haul which also resulted in the Swiss finishing three points above runners-up Canada, and Nati will be in confident mood ahead of this upcoming encounter with Colombia.

Switzerland have suffered just a single loss in their last 18 internationals across all competitions which includes picking up 11 wins, their most recent victory coming in the form of a 2-0 win against Algeria in the round of 32.

Interestingly, five of Switzerland’s last six matches overall have resulted in both teams scoring.

Colombia

Colombia matched Switzerland’s return of results in their respective Group K as Los Cafeteros also remained unbeaten during the group stage while racking up a total of seven points by virtue of collecting two wins and a draw.

Early back-to-back wins over Uzbekistan and DR Congo along with gaining a point in a 0-0 draw with Portugal saw Nestor Lorenzo’s side progress through to the knockout rounds where they again prevailed in a 1-0 win against Ghana.

Standing in Colombia’s way to the quarter-finals is Switzerland but the South Americans registered a 2-0 win against the Swiss in their only previous encounter back in the 1994 World Cup finals in the USA.

In addition, Colombia have scored at least once in nine of their last 10 internationals overall.
