A Sports Betting Preview by Auls

Queen's Park v Brora Rangers
Football: Scottish League Cup Group Stage
Saturday 11th July 2026 - Kick Off 3pm

Preview

Winning the Highland League title is only part one of the bid to get into the Football League and Brora Rangers have not quite been able to back up the regular season form in the post-season. Last season they were beaten by Edinburgh City 3-1 on aggregate, despite Brora Rangers scoring the first goal of the tie, while the season before they failed to even make the League Two Relegation Play Off when losing to East Kilbride in the Semi Final.

Back to back titles has given Brora Rangers the opportunity to join the early Rounds of the League Cup again and they will be looking for an improvement on last season.

Brora Rangers were beaten in all 4 Group matches twelve months ago and failed to score a goal and so the team will enter this section with plenty of room for improvement. They were in a tough Group last season, but the 0-4 home loss to Kelty Hearts would have hurt and Brora Rangers will be facing them again in this Group Stage.

Any team that is playing outside of the Football League will understand that there is a big challenge to be faced in the Group Stage of the League Cup and Queen's Park are first up for Brora Rangers this season.

After finishing 3rd in the Championship in 2023, Queen's Park have struggled to deal with the increased expectation around them. Back to back 8th place finishes saw them flirt with relegation back into League One, but Queen's Park finished in mid-table last time around and this looks like another season where consolidation and perhaps a bid to join the back of the Play Off picture has to be the ambition.

Last season was a disappointment for Queen's Park as they failed to make it out of the Group Stage and were put under pressure from the opening defeat to The Spartans. However, they did Qualify for the Second Round in 2024/25 League Cup Group Stage and Queen's Park should see this section as one where they can win at least three matches, which will give them a real opportunity to progress.

They do have to travel to Aberdeen and that is the toughest test in this section, but Queen's Park can build momentum towards that by winning the opening two matches.

Queen's Park have only won 1 of the last 8 competitive fixtures at the back end of last season, but they would not have been playing opponents of the level of Brora Rangers. Hosting gives them a very good chance of getting off to a strong start in the 2026/27 season as Queen's Park and Brora Rangers prepare to face one another for the first time.

Prediction

Those lower down the pyramid will feel the League Cup offers them a chance to prepare for the new season with little to lose and Brora Rangers will know they are big underdogs in this Group.

Queen's Park should have too much quality from being a Championship team and they can show that in this fixture as they largely contain the threat from the non-League opponent.
