Fenerbahce
Fenerbahce arrive in decent shape, having navigated a tricky second qualifying round against Gornik Zabrze. Ismail Kartal's men edged the Polish side 2-1 on aggregate, a 1-0 home win followed by a 1-1 draw in Zabrze. The Istanbul giants are unbeaten in their last five across all competitions and carry real momentum into this first leg.
The bigger picture is one of frustration. Fenerbahce finished Super Lig runners-up for a fifth straight season, and their wait for a domestic title now stretches beyond a decade. That makes the Champions League a genuine priority, with the club chasing the main stage for the first time since 2008-09. Kartal is under pressure to deliver a strong start on home soil.
Up front, Talisca looks the key man after scoring in both legs against Gornik. Summer signing Mason Greenwood adds another attacking threat and could feature from the start, while Mert Gunok keeps his place in goal. Fenerbahce also boast a fine European record against Austrian opposition, unbeaten in eight such meetings with five wins. Home advantage should count at a raucous Sukru Saracoglu.
Sturm Graz
Sturm Graz travel to Istanbul full of confidence after a ruthless start to their European campaign. Fabio Ingolitsch's side dismantled Hearts 6-0 on aggregate in the previous round, a 4-0 home rout backed up by a comfortable 2-0 win in Edinburgh. That reads as six goals scored and none conceded, a clear statement of intent from the Austrians.
The Graz outfit are no strangers to this stage. Back-to-back Bundesliga titles in 2023-24 and 2024-25 preceded a narrow runner-up finish last term, when they slipped just two points behind LASK. They have since reshaped the squad, losing defender Emanuel Aiwu but adding young striker Weiper from Mainz to freshen the attack.
The main concern is the venue and the occasion. Sturm carry plenty of European pedigree but face a hostile away leg against a side that rarely loses at home in qualifiers. Even so, their front-foot attacking approach means they will not simply sit deep, and that willingness to push forward feeds directly into the goals market.
Betting Verdict
This tie pits an in-form Turkish heavyweight against an Austrian side that has scored freely in Europe. Fenerbahce are clear favourites at around 1.39 and should control long spells at home, but Sturm's attacking numbers make a clean sheet look unlikely. Both teams carry threat going forward.
With Talisca firing for the hosts and Sturm arriving on the back of a 6-0 aggregate demolition, the goals look far more appealing than the match result. A short-priced home win holds little value, so the over market offers more interest. Expect Fenerbahce to edge it while both sides find the net.
