Another season is going to end with a lowly finish for the Colorado Rockies (45-70) who have the fewest wins in the National League and only one more win than the Los Angeles Angels for the fewest wins in the Major League overall. The Rockies have lost three in a row and they have made moves ahead of the trade deadline that they will hope can begin the transition back into a competitive outfit sooner than later.

The post-season is of no concern for the Rockies, but they visit the St Louis Cardinals (57-58) who would be firmly in the mix for a Wild Card spot in the American League, but who have a record that leaves them 3.5 games out of those places in the National League.

Consistency is key for the Cardinals down the stretch if they are going to be an unexpected Playoff team, and they have to take advantage of the fact that six of the remaining regular season games are against the Colorado Rockies.

The Cardinals will hand the ball to Kyle Leahy who has a 7-4 record and 3.44 ERA in twenty-one starts in his fourth season in the Major League. This is the first season in which Kyle Leahy has been used as a member of the starting rotation and the St Louis Cardinals have to be pretty happy with what they have seen.

A lack of experience as a starter was always going to mean Kyle Leahy would go through some rough moments, but he has bounced back really well. He has not faced a decision loss in any of his last seven starts and Leahy has put together a 2-0 record and 1.21 ERA in that time, while it has also been important for the Cardinals that the pitcher has completed 6 Innings in each of the last three starts.

Kyle Leahy does have a 4.32 ERA in five appearances against the Colorado Rockies, but all of those have come before this season and out of the bullpen and he is playing with a lot of confidence right now.

Colorado will counter through Ryan Feltner who has a 4-5 record and 5.75 ERA in his sixteen starts made this season.

Ryan Feltner has a 1-3 record from his last four starts for the Rockies and a 10.70 ERA, but the decision win was earned from his first start in August. He did give up four runs in 6 Innings thrown against the Kansas City Royals, but Feltner was backed up by a very strong batting display to pick up the decision win on the day.

This is the first time in a couple of years that Ryan Feltner has faced the St Louis Cardinals, although he will take some belief out of the fact he restricted them to two earned runs in over 11 Innings thrown.

In 2025, the Colorado Rockies took four of the six games played against the St Louis Cardinals.

Prediction

The National League looks pretty deep going into the final weeks of the regular season and so it will be a real challenge for a team like the St Louis Cardinals to pick up a Wild Card spot into the Playoffs.

All they can do is keep winning games and see how things stand in a month from now and the Cardinals should be able to use Kyle Leahy to set them up for a win in this opening game against the Colorado Rockies.

Nothing can be taken for granted, but Leahy has been pitching with a lot of confidence all season and he can out-duel Ryan Feltner in this game.
