The positive for Detroit is that they are firmly in the Wild Card mix and they would be occupying one of those positions if the season was to end today. Chasing down the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees looks challenging and the Detroit Tigers are only 1.5 games ahead of the Cleveland Guardians for that third Wild Card spot and with four teams even closer than that.

It means the Tigers are under pressure to keep winning games and having Troy Melton going to the mound is a big help in their bid to level up this series.

Prediction

Much like the Miami-Cincinnati game on Friday, this is a game that could come down to some fine margins considering the form being put together by the two starting pitchers.

Troy Melton does have the edge over Anthony Kay with the consistency he has shown start after start and that can help the Detroit Tigers level up this important series in the American League Central and Wild Card races.
