A big win in the opener of this three game inter-League set will have Cleveland Guardians (63-66) enjoying what has been a rare back to back success, but the key for the team is to build on that. A fourth year pitcher will be going to the mound on Saturday as the Guardians continue the series with the slumping Colorado Rockies (50-78).

The 4.5 game gap to the Chicago White Sox continues to look a big gap to close down, but the Cleveland Guardians are firmly in the mix for looks to be one Wild Card spot, barring a significant collapse from either the New York Yankees or Boston Red Sox to open up another place. Trades were made to take Cleveland into the post-season and anything less than that would be seen as a big disappointment, but they have lacked the consistency that they would have hoped.

On Saturday they will give the ball to Tanner Bibee who has a 4-13 record and 4.01 ERA in twenty-six starts in 2026 and the personal ambition of the pitcher has to be trying to push that down below 4.00 for the campaign.

Tanner Bibee will certainly feel his record does not reflect his level on the mound, although he will head into this outing having put together a 0-4 record and 4.60 ERA in his last five starts. He has allowed at leas three runs in four of those five starts, but Tanner Bibee has given the bullpen as much relief as possible by almost completing 6 Innings across the board in that run.

It has been three years since Tanner Bibee pitched against the Colorado Rockies, but he will take confidence from the way the home team were handled on Friday.

The Rockies will be trying to bounce back behind Gabriel Hughes who has a 0-4 record and 6.69 ERA in eight appearances in his rookie season. Colorado have given Gabriel Hughes seven starts in order to assess his suitability to be a part of the starting rotation in 2027, but the early positive signs have been replaced.

August has been a tough month for Gabriel Hughes who has a 0-1 record, but a 12.83 ERA in three starts made.

Gabriel Hughes had not given up more than three runs in any of his first four starts and had managed to complete at least 5 Innings, but he has allowed nineteen runs in his last 13 Innings thrown and each August start has ended with at least five runs allowed.

Prediction

The Cleveland Guardians got the job done for these pages on Friday and they can get after Gabriel Hughes in this game.

It should offer Tanner Bibee a bit more room for error and the Guardians can make it three wins in a row to really begin to put some late season momentum together.
