Schalke 04’s Bundesliga return could hardly have started worse. They were beaten 3-0 away to Augsburg, with the game still in the balance at half-time before Ron Schallenberg’s straight red card in the second half left them with ten men.

Schallenberg is suspended for this one, while Schalke 04 also have several injury concerns, including Kenan Karaman and Adrian Gantenbein.

There was at least some promise in the opening stages against Augsburg, but Bayern Munich present a completely different level of challenge.

Schalke 04 have also lost their last six meetings with the Bavarians, and their most recent Bundesliga victory over the champions came back in 2010.

Bayern Munich made a powerful start to their title defense, hammering VfB Stuttgart 5-1 after already beating Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup.

Dayot Upamecano, Michael Olise, Aleksandar Pavlović and Luis Díaz all scored against VfB Stuttgart, with Bayern Munich producing another strong attacking display.

The visitors are not completely at full strength, with Jamal Musiala and Serge Gnabry still listed among the absentees, but the depth available to Vincent Kompany is a major advantage here.

Bayern Munich have won six straight against Schalke 04 and scored freely in this fixture over the years, making the visitors very difficult to oppose after their opening-weekend performance.

The Betting Verdict

This looks like a very tough night for Schalke 04. Their defensive problems were exposed once Augsburg gained the extra man, and now they face a Bayern Munich side that has already scored seven goals in its first two competitive matches of the season.

With Schallenberg suspended and Bayern Munich's attack in this kind of form, the champions should have too much quality.
