These two American League Divisional leaders will not want to think about the Wild Card standings, but they are both in tight battles at the top of the Central and West Divisions respectively. That makes this final game of this four game series important for both the Chicago White Sox (73-66) and the Houston Astros (71-69) who lead the Divisions by 3 and 2 games respectively.

The opening three games have been edged 2-1 by the Houston Astros and the White Sox are perhaps feeling a bit more pressure having lost three of the last four games before heading into another series with American League Central rivals Minnesota Twins.

The White Sox do have a bigger lead to protect at the top of their Division, but the Houston Astros take aim at a third series win in a row, which is beginning to build the pressure on those chasing them in the West Division.

Houston will hand the ball to Hunter Brown and look for the starter to continue his fine form in the Major League. One of the issues has been availability, but Hunter Brown has put together a 4-3 record and 3.33 ERA in his fifteen starts this season and is going to be a key part of the starting rotation for the Astros as long as they still playing.

Hunter Brown finished August with a 1-2 record after five starts were made in the month, but his personal level has given his team every opportunity to win games. Not only did Brown have a 3.18 ERA in August, but he has chewed through 5 Innings every time and it is only the inconsistent batting lineup that has prevented him putting together a record more fitting to his quality of pitching.

Earlier this season, Hunter Brown pitched 7 completed Innings on the road against the White Sox and held them scoreless and picked up the decision win.

The Chicago White Sox will hand the ball to Luis Castillo in this game and they are still hoping that the veteran can rediscover his best form on the mound. In nine years in the Major League, Luis Castillo only finished with an ERA above 3.99 once and he had put together three very solid seasons with the Seattle Mariners.

2026 has been a really challenging year for Luis Castillo who had a 3-9 record and 5.06 ERA in twenty appearances- seventeen starts- for the Seattle Mariners before being traded to the Chicago White Sox. Five starts have been made in the White Sox uniform and Luis Castillo has a 1-1 record and 6.45 ERA in those.

Three road starts have been made in August and Luis Castillo has pitched just shy of 13 Innings across those, but allowed twelve earned runs. He has been a little fortunate that the White Sox batting lineup have protected the win-loss record, but Castillo will need to be better if he is going to have the kind of impact Chicago will be wanting to see.

Luis Castillo was pitching for Houston's Divisional rival Seattle before heading to the White Sox and has made two starts against the Astros. His first decision win of the season was earned against Houston when restricting them to three runs into the 6th Inning, but Castillo has also been knocked around for seven runs and withdrawn in the 4th Inning in the other start.

Prediction

You have to give the Houston Astros the edge on the starter mound, which could prove to be the key factor in this last of a four game set between two American League Divisional leaders.
