Despite trading away some very valuable pieces of the team around the deadline, the Detroit Tigers (66-78) had picked up some momentum and looked capable of a late push towards the post-season. Some wondered if they had made a mistake by moving on some key parts of the starting pitching rotation, but the Tigers have slipped away over the last couple of weeks and 2026 looks to be ending in disappointing fashion.

The very same can be said for the Minnesota Twins (68-76), although this American League Central team is a little closer to the Wild Card places. There is a 4.5 game gap between the Twins and rivals Cleveland Guardians in the third Wild Card spot, but the Detroit Tigers have 6.5 games to make up and time is very much against both of these Divisional rivals.

Detroit lost two of three at the home of the Twins in early September and followed up by losing three of four to the Cleveland Guardians to end lingering Playoff hopes, but they have taken the opener of this series on Monday evening.

It is a result that also means Minnesota have dropped four of the last five games and the Twins will be hoping Dean Kremer can get them back on track.

Dean Kremer has a 1-1 record and 4.99 ERA in six starts made for the Minnesota Twins since arriving in a trade with the Baltimore Orioles. His numbers had been decent before this season, but the Orioles were still willing to let Kremer try a new environment.

After allowing just two runs in the first two starts for the Minnesota Twins, which covered 12 Innings, Dean Kremer has a 0-1 record and 7.23 ERA in his last four starts. The first start in September ended with Dean Kremer allowing four runs in 4 Innings to these Detroit Tigers, although the batting lineup helped out enough to avoid the starter factoring into the decision.

The Tigers will be looking to back up the win on Monday by giving the ball to Drew Anderson who has a 4-5 record and 3.73 in forty-eight appearances in 2026. Eight of those have been in starts after Anderson returned to the Major League following several years away playing in Japan, and this will also represent the seventh start in succession.

It was Drew Anderson who opposed Dean Kremer earlier this month and the Detroit starter allowed a single earned run before being withdrawn in the 7th Inning. The starter also has a 0-1 record with a 2.57 ERA in his last six starts for the Detroit Tigers and Drew Anderson will be hoping the batting lineup can give him more support.

Minnesota have already secured the season series with the Detroit Tigers having won seven of eleven games played and with two more yet to play.

Prediction

This is a series that may be running out of importance as far as the Playoff picture may be concerned, but Divisional rivals should still find motivation easy to come by against one another.

The Detroit Tigers look to be sending a more positive pitcher to the mound to start and Drew Anderson can help them to another win over the Minnesota Twins if Dean Kremer continues to struggle.
