Football: English Premier League
Saturday 12th September 2026 - Kick Off 3pm
Bournemouth
A huge week is coming up for Bournemouth as they prepare to play in Europe for the first time and there is going to be much excitement around the club in the lead to the trip to San Sebastian to take on Real Sociedad. Marco Rose is going to be tasked with managing the club in that match, but he will be keen to see Bournemouth erase some early mistakes, which have led to fewer points than they have perhaps deserved.
The Cherries have 2 points from the opening fixtures in the Premier League, but that feels disappointing when thinking they have been leading every fixture into the 83rd minute. The last two weeks have seen Bournemouth concede close to or within injury time to turn wins into draws and that includes the opening fixture at the Vitality Stadium that ended in a 1-1 draw with Everton.
Bournemouth being involved in the Europa League meant playing a League Cup Third Round tie during the week and they did crush Lincoln City of the Championship 4-0 to earn a first competitive victory under the new manager. It is a victory that extends the unbeaten run to 11 games in all competitions at the Vitality Stadium, although the draw with Everton means Bournemouth have shared the spoils in 7 of the last 8 Premier League games played here.
Amine Adli is still hoping he can play a part before the September international break, but that is becoming increasingly unlikely. He is expected to miss this game along with Julian Araujo and Eli Junior Kroupi.
Brentford
Keith Andrews will be frustrated that his Brentford team did not see out a win over Sunderland last weekend, but they remain unbeaten early in the new campaign and that is a positive. Seeing the likes of Bournemouth, Brighton and Sunderland taking part in European Football will only have increased the ambition inside this part of West London to see Brentford do the same having only just missed out last season.
The 5 points that have already been secured has given Brentford something to build upon, but they could easily have won all three Premier League games played. The Bees dominated at Elland Road before allowing Leeds United back into the game as time ticked down and Brentford will be looking to close out this fixture in stronger fashion.
Brentford are unbeaten in 6 games in all competitions going back to last season, but 4 of those have ended in draws. One of the targets for Keith Andrews will be helping his team find a way to win fixtures away from the Gtech Community Stadium having overseen 1 away Brentford win from the last 8 played on their travels.
Mathias Jensen is expected to miss this week, but may return before the September international break, while Nathan Collins has an issue that leaves him doubtful. The likes of Sepp van den Berg, Joshua Dasilva and Antoni Milambo are hoping to return in early October following the completion of the international break.
Head to Head
Brentford picked up four points from Bournemouth in the Premier League last season.
The League game at the Vitality Stadium finished goalless, but earlier in the season, Brentford had won a League Cup Second Round tie here 0-2.
Brentford are unbeaten in 5 visits to this part of the South Coast and had won 3 in a row before the goalless draw in early March.
Prediction
Two very well run clubs will likely be finishing in and around one another again in the 2026/27 season and both Bournemouth and Brentford will be hoping to challenge for European Football.
The former managed to earn a spot in the Europa League and that competition will begin for Bournemouth on Thursday, which is an exciting time for everyone associated with the club.
Marco Rose will know how important that competition could be to Bournemouth considering the success Premier League clubs have had in the Europa League over the last two seasons.
However, he will also want to avoid Bournemouth being distracted to the extent Nottingham Forest may have been last season when dragged into a relegation scrap and Marco Rose will be desperate to oversee a first League win of the season.
Bournemouth did beat Lincoln City here in the League Cup on Tuesday, but they have lost focus late in Premier League games and goals conceded after the 83rd minute has cost them in all 3 games played. They have still picked up points from the last two against Everton and Newcastle United, but the new manager will want to see his team conclude fixtures as well as they have started them.
Late goals have been a blow to Brentford as well having dropped out of winning positions in the last couple of weeks, but Keith Andrews has seen his team pick up three points already.
Looking at the underlying numbers, both teams will be impressed with the starts made and will feel that things will turn in a positive winning direction if they can sustain levels.
However, these two are well matched and it feels like a game in which the draw is a real runner.
Brentford had won 3 in a row at the Vitality Stadium before the draw in March and the fact both are conceding late goals may mean the final result is determined in those latter moments on Saturday. The Bees will travel with some confidence thanks to recent results at this ground, but Bournemouth are also creating plenty of chances and it could eventually lead to the two cancelling one another out.
An interest in the draw in this Premier League fixture has to be the play considering what we have seen from both teams early in this campaign.
