England
There will not be many voices arguing against England's win over Croatia this past weekend as being the finest performance produced by the national team under the guidance of Thomas Tuchel. The 0-7 away win may be the best overall performance England have produced against any team since beating Germany 1-5 in the 2002 World Cup Qualifying Group, but it also means expectations have been raised when the team conclude this lengthy international period.
Wins over Czechia and Croatia means England are 2nd in this Nations League Group and another three points on Tuesday will mean they are well on the way to earning a spot in the Quarter Final of the competition. Maintaining the strong run would also place England in a top Seed spot for the Euro 2028 Qualifier draw which takes place in December and Tuchel and his squad have to be feeling pretty good about the form produced since the 2-3 defeat to Spain.
England's defeat to the World Champions came at Wembley Stadium and both wins in this Group have been away from home. The national team had won 5 home games in a row in competitive action before the defeat to Spain, and England have tended to be stronger defensively than they showed on Match Day 1 of the Nations League.
Alex Scott has picked up an injury which is set to mean a spell of up to two months on the sidelines, which has upset his club Bournemouth. Ezri Konsa has been set back to Arsenal, but that is more of a precautionary decision, while the manager may choose to make one or two rotations to the starting eleven to freshen things up outside of the enforced moves needed.
Czechia
The extended early international break means national teams can come together and build a bit of momentum, but some have been hit hard by injury and may have have hoped for a bit more respite. Welsh manager Craig Bellamy bemoaned the schedule and Czechia manager Santi Denia may feel similar with his injury hit squad looking certain for relegation from League A of the Nations League.
All three matches played in this international window have ended in defeat for Czechia, although they have shown competitive spirit in the losses against Croatia, England and Spain. Points are needed for Czechia with only two of the bottom four finishers guaranteed to be relegated from League A (the other two will go into the promotion/relegation Play Off Round).
Czechia found their way into the 2026 World Cup Finals thanks to a couple of Penalty Shoot Out successes, but the team have lost 5 of the last 6 games, including two at that tournament. The away form has been pretty disappointing and Czechia have won just 2 of the last 9 on their travels in competitive action, while the 3-1 loss in Spain means Czechia have lost 4 of the last 5 away competitive fixtures played.
Ladislav Krejci was sent off on Match Day 3 and will serve a suspension, while Pavel Sulc is back from a suspension after being sent off on Match Day 2.
Head to Head
England took advantage of ten man Czechia to earn a 0-2 win last week in Prague.
They have beaten Czechia at home in the Euro 2020 Qualifying Group and also at the Finals of that tournament played in 2021.
Prediction
Experts will analyse the impact of the extended international break at the end of September through to early October and whether it really does benefit players.
A huge amount of injuries have been seen around the Nations League and further afield, but managers of the national teams will believe this has been an important time for them to spend proper time with players that may be key going forward.
The importance of the Nations League is still being debated, but England fans will forget all that if the team can make it through to the Quarter Finals and beyond.
A thumping 0-7 win in Croatia will have given all associated with England a massive lift and the expectation is that they can wrap up this four game run with another win on Tuesday.
England are being asked to cover a big Asian Handicap line.
They are facing a Czechia team who have lost all three games played this past two weeks and who are missing a number of key players through injury or suspension. Some fight and character has been shown, but the 3-1 loss in Spain means Czechia have continued a poor away run which has stretched back several months.
A sending off put Czechia behind the black ball when hosting England on Match Day 2, but playing at Wembley Stadium is a much tougher test anyway. The likelihood is that England will have some of the top attacking players on the field and that may see them go a little better than Spain by winning this fixture by at least three goals.
Fans will be looking for England to make a positive start to this fixture and then grow from there and, if they can score early, the attacking players should be able to thrive.
