2026-10-10 - Aston Villa vs Brentford

A Sports Betting Preview by Auls

Aston Villa v Brentford
Football: English Premier League
Saturday 10th October 2026 - Kick Off 3pm

Aston Villa

Unai Emery would have hoped his Aston Villa team could have built upon a couple of very solid away wins after a sticky start, but the three week international break could benefit in a different way. The squad had been stretched with early injuries, but this time may have improved the depth of options available to the manager ahead of a busy run through to the November international break.

The Villans moved out of the bottom three with the 2-3 victory at Tottenham Hotspur and they are 16th in the Premier League table with 4 points on the board. Both games at Villa Park have ended in defeat and Aston Villa have only scored a single Premier League goal in front of the supporters.

Aston Villa moved into the international break with 3 wins from the previous 4 games played in all competitions and all of those victories were earned away from Villa Park. They had concluded last season with 6 wins from the last 7 fixtures played at home, but Aston Villa have suffered defeats to both Arsenal and Nottingham Forest here this season.

Ian Maatsen may have to wait until after the next international break before he can return, but the likes of Pau Torres, Leon Goretzka, Alysson and Brian Madjo could all be available.

Brentford

After only just missing out on earning a spot in European Football last season, Brentford fans will be pleased that the club have been able to hold onto key players through the summer transfer window. Big clubs are being linked with some of those players after Brentford's strong start to the season, but Keith Andrews will be trying to keep everyone grounded.

Playing in European competition for the first time has to be the ambition at the end of this season and The Bees are up into 4th place in the early Premier League table. They are unbeaten in the top flight and Brentford will be travelling to the West Midlands with a 0-2-0 away record.

Brentford have extended the unbeaten run to 9 games in all competitions after crushing Chelsea 3-0 at home last time out. The side have not won any of the last 7 away Premier League games, but Brentford have drawn 3 in a row and have won League Cup ties at Birmingham City and Reading during that run.

Mikkel Damsgaard picked up an injury on international duty and is a doubt, while Dango Outtara is hoping to overcome an illness. The likes of Nathan Collins, Sepp van den Berg and Mathias Jensen could be set to travel with the squad.

Head to Head

Brentford beat Aston Villa by the same 1-0 scoreline in both Premier League games played last season and also got the better of this opponent on Penalties in the League Cup.

Aston Villa had been unbeaten in all 11 home games against Brentford before the defeat here in February.

6 of the last 9 at Villa Park have ended in draws when Aston Villa have hosted The Bees.

Prediction

Both Aston Villa and Brentford scored three goals in winning Premier League games before the international break and Unai Emery and Keith Andrews will be hoping the three week gap between fixtures has not slowed any momentum earned.

You have to expect both managers will have been pleased by what they had seen from the respective teams in the previous couple of weeks before the international window opened.

The gap between games will have allowed key players to return to the squad and this is expected to be a tight, competitive fixture.

Out of the two teams, Brentford have been more convincing, but it should be noted the best performances have been at the Gtech Community Stadium. They have drawn both away Premier League games and Brentford have found it a little difficult to turn stalemates into victories on their travels.

Aston Villa have lost both games at Villa Park, but they conceded late in the defeat to Nottingham Forest and gave Arsenal plenty of problems. Uani Emery's experience should help the squad begin to pick up stronger results, much as it did last season after another slow start, but this is another tough game for the hosts.

The first goal is going to be important to just give that team a lift, but both are capable of hurting the other and the draw may be a big player in this fixture.
