2026-10-10 - Mainz vs Bayer Leverkusen

A Sports Betting Preview by Niko

Mainz v Bayer Leverkusen
Football; Germany: Bundesliga
MEWA Arena – Mainz
Saturday, 10th October 2026 - kickoff 15:30 CET

Mainz

Mainz got seven points from their opening four Bundesliga games and sit sixth in the table. They opened with a 0-0 draw against SC Paderborn, hammered Hamburger SV 0-5 away, lost 1-3 to Eintracht Frankfurt at home, and then beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 3-4 in a seven-goal thriller before the break. A real roller-coaster so far.

The strange part of their start is the split between home and away form. Mainz have won both of their away games, but they have taken just one point from their two home matches. Their 0-0 draw with SC Paderborn was followed by the 1-3 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt, so Urs Fischer will want a much better performance at the MEWA Arena.

Sheraldo Becker and Phillip Tietz have been central to the strong start. Becker already has three assists and five goal involvements, while Tietz has scored four times, the joint-best tally in the Bundesliga after four games.

Mainz will be without Dominik Kohr and Silas, with Robin Zentner among the doubts.

Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen have also collected seven points, recovering well after the opening 3-2 defeat at SV Elversberg. They followed that with a 4-0 win over Union Berlin, a 2-2 draw at Augsburg and a 2-0 victory over RB Leipzig.

The attacking numbers are particularly strong. Only Bayern Munich has taken more shots than Leverkusen's 85 after four rounds, and only Bayern Munich has scored more open-play goals than Bayer Leverkusen's 10.

Patrik Schick has been the most reliable goalscorer. He has scored in each of Bayer Leverkusen's first four Bundesliga games and needs one more to equal the club record for scoring in the opening five league matches, previously set by Dimitar Berbatov and Stefan Kiessling. He has also scored five times in nine Bundesliga appearances against Mainz.

Bayer Leverkusen do have a few absences for this game. Guéla Doué remains out with a calf injury, while Montrell Culbreath and Ibrahim Eichhorn are also unavailable.

The Betting Verdict

The recent head-to-head record gives Bayer Leverkusen the edge. Mainz have won only two of the last 10 meetings, while Bayer Leverkusen have won six.

The last meeting ended 1-1 in February, but Bayer Leverkusen won 3-4 at the MEWA Arena in October 2025.

I like Leverkusen here, but I don't want to force the away win. Mainz already have seven points and plenty of attacking quality, so a draw is possible.

Bayer Leverkusen Draw No Bet is around 1.62-1.67, which looks solid to me. Their chance creation has been excellent, Schick is in outstanding form, and Mainz have taken only one point from their two home games so far.

I would go with Bayer Leverkusen Draw No Bet here. I expect another open game, with Bayer Leverkusen having enough chances to edge it if they can keep Mainz's attack under control. My correct score pick is 1-2.
