SC Paderborn finally have something to build on. After starting the season with a 0-0 draw at Mainz and scoreless defeats to SC Freiburg and Borussia Dortmund, they produced their first Bundesliga win since returning to the top flight, beating TSG Hoffenheim 3-1 before the international break.

The three goals against TSG Hoffenheim were particularly welcome after SC Paderborn had failed to score in their opening three matches. Laurin Curda has also been one of their standout performers, winning 61 duels across the first four rounds, the most of any Bundesliga player.

They will need another strong defensive effort, though, with SC Paderborn already conceding five goals in four games. Awortwie-Grant is out, while Hoffmeier and Gayret are doubts.

VfB Stuttgart

VfB Stuttgart's three points from four Bundesliga games do not tell the whole story, but they have certainly made life difficult for themselves. They were beaten 5-1 by Bayern Munich, then responded with a 4-1 win over Köln, before losing 2-1 at TSG Hoffenheim and 0-1 at home to Borussia Dortmund.

One trend makes me reluctant to write them off here: VfB Stuttgart have scored in 23 consecutive Bundesliga away matches, a club record. At the same time, they have won only one of their last 9 Bundesliga away games, so this is hardly an easy task.

The historical matchup is much kinder to Sebastian Hoeness' side. VfB Stuttgart have never lost any of their five competitive meetings with SC Paderborn, winning four and drawing one. The last meeting was the 2023 DFB-Pokal round of 16, when VfB Stuttgart won 1-2.

VfB Stuttgart are set to welcome back goalkeeper Dennis Seimen against his former club after his long injury layoff. He spent last season on loan at SC Paderborn before returning to Stuttgart, and Hoeness has confirmed he will make his Bundesliga debut here.

The Betting Verdict

I’m going with VfB Stuttgart here. Their Bundesliga start has been poor, but three of their four games were against Bayern Munich, TSG Hoffenheim and Borussia Dortmund, and this is a much more favorable matchup.

The away win is around 1.60, which is a price I’m happy to take. VfB Stuttgart have scored in 23 straight Bundesliga away games, have never lost to SC Paderborn, and should have enough to punish a side that has already conceded five times.
