Crystal Palace
It has been a mixed start to the season for Crystal Palace who have had to deal with injuries to key players as well as getting accustomed to a new manager. Pierre Sage will be hoping things can settle pretty quickly for a club that are dealing with European and domestic commitments for a second season in a row.
Not many teams will be overly concerned with the position in the Premier League table after just five games have been played and Crystal Palace may be one of those just focusing on matches as they are to be played. The Eagles are 14th in the table with 4 points on the board, while they have a 0-0-2 record at Selhurst Park where Crystal Palace have scored 3 goals and conceded 7.
Crystal Palace earned a goalless draw at Leeds United just before the international break and that means they have won 3 of the last 5 games played in all competitions and earned clean sheets in 3 of the last 4. Both Premier League home games have ended in defeat, but Crystal Palace have beaten Middlesbrough and Lech Poznan in Cup competitions here.
Axel Disasi will continue to serve a suspension, but the squad could be bolstered with the likes of Dean Henderson and Jean-Philippe Mateta expected to return either this weekend or very soon afterwards.
Nottingham Forest
Five games is not nearly enough time for any manager to be assessed and certainly not one who has only just arrived at a club in the summer. Patience will be needed by the Nottingham Forest fans if Oliver Glasner is going to have the same kind of success at the City Ground as he has had with previous clubs, including most recently Crystal Palace.
The hope is that a season without European Football will allow Glasner to push Nottingham Forest back towards those positions, but they are 13th in the Premier League table with 5 points earned so far in this campaign. The Tricky Trees will take confidence from the fact that the majority of those points have been earned away from home where they have a 1-1-0 record.
Nottingham Forest had been unbeaten in 3 Premier League games, but entered the international break after a big setback when losing 0-1 to Coventry City. A lack of home goals is a concern, but Nottingham Forest have scored twice in both away Premier League games played when drawing at Anfield and winning at Villa Park.
Nicolo Savona and Nikola Milenkovic are both hoping to be available and give Nottingham Forest a full squad to travel with this weekend.
Head to Head
Both Premier League games ended 1-1 when Crystal Palace played Nottingham Forest last season.
The last 5 at Selhurst Park have ended in draws and 4 of those by that same 1-1 scoreline.
Prediction
The 'Oliver Glasner derby' is played this weekend when the former Crystal Palace brings his new team, Nottingham Forest, to Selhurst Park for the first time since departing.
You have to expect Glasner to receive a warm welcome on his return considering the successes he had with Crystal Palace, but it is an important game for both teams after the international break. The focus should move onto that pretty quickly for the fans and there is very little between Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest.
Pierre Sage is the new manager in charge of the home team and he is still trying to find the right balance between attack and defence. Crystal Palace have conceded 7 goals in a couple of home League matches, but the draw with Leeds United makes it 3 clean sheets in 4 games in all competitions.
There has been plenty to like about Crystal Palace when they have gotten forward, but it has left them open to the counter attack and someone like Oliver Glasner should know all about the strengths and weaknesses of the home squad.
His Nottingham Forest team have not been very consistent to open this season, but Glasner's tactics have long felt stronger away from home. That includes his time with Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest have earned 4 points from visits to Liverpool and Aston Villa, which will give them plenty of encouragement ahead of this trip to South London.
It does look like a fixture where there will be very little between them and both League games ended in score draws last season.
In fact, the last 5 games hosted by Crystal Palace against Nottingham Forest have all ended in draws and 4 of those have finished 1-1.
That looks a scoreline that could be the final outcome of this one, but backing any kind of draw may be the more sensible play overall.
