Hull City

They may have suffered a Premier League defeat for the first time this season just before the international break, but Hull City fans could not have asked for much more from the players and manager. A season which began with Hull City as strong favourites for an immediate relegation back to the Championship has started off with much more positivity than anyone could have really imagined.

The Tigers return to action this weekend and they are 8th in the Premier League table with 8 points secured already in what will always have been a season in which they would be happy to finish 17th. Home form needs to remain consistent and Hull City have a 1-1-0 record in front of the supporters and have kept clean sheets in both matches.

Hull City had been Knocked Out of the League Cup in the North East of England by Sunderland and they were beaten 2-1 at Newcastle United in the last Premier League game played. A win over Manchester United and a draw with Aston Villa means Hull City are unbeaten in 7 at home in all competitions going back to last season.

Matt Targett, Nobel Mendy, Hidemasa Morita and Charlie Hughes are all hoping to be involved this weekend as Hull City's long injury list shows some sign of clearing up.

Everton

A positive start to the Premier League season and progress in the League Cup will have quietened some of the disgruntled supporters, but David Moyes will know his squad will need some luck between now and the January transfer window. A poor summer window has left Everton short of numbers in key areas and so they will need to avoid injuries and suspensions if they are going to get close to achieving the goals set out by the manager.

David Moyes is very keen on taking Everton back into European Football and they are 7th in the Premier League table with 9 points on the board and being one of the few unbeaten teams left in the top flight. The Toffees have a 0-2-0 away record where they have scored and conceded just once.

Everton had drawn 3 matches in a row in the Premier League, but they went into the international break having beaten Wolves and Ipswich Town in the League Cup and Premier League respectively. Both wins came by the same 1-0 scoreline at home, but Everton have not won any of the last 7 away Premier League games.

Vitalii Mykolenko returned from international duty with an injury and is a doubt, but Merlin Rohl and Christian Norgaard should be available.

Head to Head

Hull City hosted Everton in the FA Cup in January 2022 and it was a tie won 2-3 by The Toffees in Extra Time.

That means Hull City are unbeaten in 3 home games against Everton in normal time, but they are hosting a League fixture for the first time since February 2016.

Prediction

No one could have predicted the start Hull City would have made to the Premier League and this is a group that will have confidence in one another.

They have picked up the points in various ways, which can only be a positive for manager Sergej Jakirovic.

Back to back clean sheets at home when hosting Manchester United and Aston Villa will have given the entire football club a boost in belief and Hull City are looking capable of picking up enough points to avoid an immediate relegation back to the Championship.

It would be an achievement that overcomes all of the pre-season odds, but Hull City cannot take anything for granted and will need to come out of the international break fully focused.

Next up is a home game against an Everton team that remain unbeaten in 2026/27 and who have a largely healthy squad to call upon.

David Moyes knows how quickly things can turn if Everton were to pick up an injury or two, but for now the squad looks in a good place and there has been plenty to like about the way they have been playing. Clean sheets have given Everton a chance to win matches and they have also looked capable of creating opportunities in the final third.

One criticism is that Thierno Barry is still a little wasteful and Everton have not really found the answers to adding goals outside of the striker. They lost key players that could have done that for them in the summer transfer window without replacing them as the fans would have liked, but Everton have been creating chances and that makes them dangerous.

They do look a touch short to win here, but Everton may be able to exploit a set piece of two to swing this game in their favour and The Toffees may have enough to edge to a victory at odds against.

Hull City are not going to make anything easy, and have deeper options as players have recovered from injury during the extended international break. It should mean The Tigers have a bit more bite about them, but Hull City have might struggle to contain an Everton team that are healthier right now and with some quality in the final third that can make the difference.
