Slovan Bratislava have had a difficult few weeks. Their UEFA Champions League campaign began with a 6-1 away defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, and they have also struggled for consistency in the domestic league. Their latest result was a 1-1 draw away to Skalica, following a 1-2 win at Komárno and a 3-3 draw with Žilina.

The biggest problem is their defense. Slovan Bratislava conceded six against PSG and have let in goals regularly in domestic football as well. They can still cause problems going forward, but they will need a much more disciplined performance to keep VfB Stuttgart quiet.

At least there is some familiarity with the opposition. VfB Stuttgart beat Slovan 1-3 in Bratislava in January 2025, while the previous two meetings came in the 2010 Europa League qualifying rounds. VfB Stuttgart won the first leg 0-1 away and drew 2-2 at home in the return.

VfB Stuttgart arrive in better shape. They beat Viking 3-1 in their UEFA Champions League opener and won 0-2 away at SC Paderborn this last Saturday. That result should give them confidence after a mixed start to the Bundesliga campaign.

Their attack has been productive, and they have enough movement and quality in the final third to trouble Slovan Bratislava. The hosts have struggled to keep opponents out, so VfB Stuttgart should have chances to score more than once.

One player is confirmed out for this match: Maximilian Mittelstädt suffered a cut that required stitches after the SC Paderborn game and will be sidelined for now.

Even so, VfB Stuttgart have the depth to cope, and their recent European record against Slovan Bratislava gives them another reason to feel confident.

The Betting Verdict

VfB Stuttgart are the stronger side, but the straight win price is too short for me.

Slovan Bratislava have conceded plenty of goals recently, and the last two meetings between these teams both produced at least four goals, with both sides scoring.

I prefer Over 3.5 goals at around 1.90. VfB Stuttgart have a strong attack to do most of the damage, but Slovan Bratislava should have enough at home to make this interesting if they can take their chances. Back the goals in this one at solid odds.
