This has not been the start of the season that Burnley fans or the board would have expected, but the 0-4 win at Vicarage Road out of the extended international break could be the spark they have needed. This is the first Championship win of the season and that means Burnley need to find some momentum to start moving up the League standings.

Three points earned on Saturday means Burnley are 22nd in the Championship table and they are already 7 points behind the top eight places in the Division. It is far too early in the campaign to be overly concerned, but Burnley will want to get moving and that means improving the 0-3-1 record at Turf Moor where they have scored 5 goals and conceded 6.

Burnley have lost 1 of the last 4 League games played, but the win at Watford is the first since early February when they won at Selhurst Park in the Premier League. The recent form at Turf Moor has been really disappointing and Burnley have not won any of 14 games here in all competitions, although 6 of the last 7 have ended in draws.

Charlton Athletic

Two early goals at either end of the pitch meant Charlton Athletic finished up sharing the points with Bristol City this past weekend. Nathan Jones has to be happy with the start made in a campaign in which they are looking to consolidate back in the second tier of English Football, but there is room for improvement.

The Addicks are 12th in the Championship table and they have picked up 13 points in the Division, but this is a team that have scored just 8 goals and conceded 11 in the nine League fixtures played. This is a long journey to the North West for Charlton Athletic who have a 1-1-2 away record where they have scored 4 goals and conceded 9.

Charlton Athletic began the season with 3 straight Championship wins, but they have since failed to win any of the last 6 League games played. An upset win at the London Stadium has to be respected, but Charlton Athletic have conceded seven goals in losing consecutive away games at Stoke City and Cardiff City.

Head to Head

These two clubs are meeting for the first time since the 2015/16 season when both Burnley and Charlton Athletic played in the Championship.

Burnley won both League fixtures very comfortably in that season.

Prediction

The drop from the Premier League into the Championship has been one that Burnley have dealt with effectively the previous two times they have been in this position.

2026/27 has been different and Burnley had begun the season without a victory in 8 League games played, but the 0-4 win at Watford should give the team a real boost.

It is only the second time this season that Burnley have scored at least twice in a single match and the creativity at Turf Moor has been pretty disappointing all things considered.

Burnley should be aided by the visiting Charlton Athletic who have conceded seven goals in the last couple of away League games played.

Nathan Jones will want his team to show a bit more resiliency at the back considering the amount of good chances they are giving up. The Addicks have won at the London Stadium, which deserves respect, but this is a long trip for them on Tuesday evening and Burnley may be able to build on the result from Saturday and create enough in the final third to produce the goals needed to earn the three points.
