A Sports Betting Preview by Auls

Fulham v Hull City
Football: English Premier League
Saturday 17th October 2026 - Kick Off 3pm

Fulham

Alvaro Arbeloa managed in the pressurised environment of Real Madrid, but he will be well aware that the Fulham board are going to be keen to see him pick up some positive results and quickly. Losing at Portman Road would have been seen as a disappointment regardless, but the manner in which Fulham were beaten by Ipswich Town will have really stung and this becomes a really important game for the manager.

The Craven Cottage crowd are never going to be the most vocal in the Premier League when it comes to voicing their discontent, but the Fulham board also know the importance of staying in the top flight and that will build early pressure on the new manager. After six League games have been played, Fulham find themselves bottom of the table with just 2 points on the board, while they have a 0-1-2 record at home in the Division.

Fulham had been unbeaten in 3 games in all competitions, which included progressing into the League Cup Fourth Round, but they conceded twice in the final few minutes to lose 2-1 at Ipswich Town last weekend. They had opened the season with consecutive 2-3 home defeats to Chelsea and Crystal Palace, but Fulham earned a 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage against Manchester United just before the last international break.

Antonee Robinson and Tom Cairney need to pass fitness tests to be involved on Saturday.

Hull City

All credit has to be given to Sergej Jakirovic and his Hull City squad for continuing to battle and show character throughout matches that they have been competing in. Last weekend that was on display again as The Tigers fought back from conceding two second half goals to rally for a point against Everton.

Keeping the points ticking over will give everyone associated with Hull City the belief that they can upset the odds and retain Premier League status beyond the 2026/27 season. The side are 8th in the early standings and Hull City will be most pleased with having secured 9 points already. The side travel to West London with a 1-1-1 away record in the Premier League.

Hull City are winless in 5 games in all competitions since opening the season with consecutive Premier League wins and also progressing in the League Cup. Since then they have lost at Sunderland and Newcastle United in the League Cup and Premier League respectively, but Hull City did earn a 2-2 draw in West London at Stamford Bridge during this winless sequence.

Matt Targett and Charlie Hughes are both hoping to return to the squad at some point during October, but both are doubts for this weekend.

Head to Head

Fulham won a FA Cup tie at Hull City in the 2022/23 season, but these clubs are playing in the same Division for the first time since the 2021/22 Championship campaign.

It was Fulham who won both League games that season and they have won 3 of the last 4 at Craven Cottage against Hull City, although the exception is a 0-3 away win in November 2019.

Prediction

Any new manager will tell you that the first win on the board is crucial to just help them settle into the role and Alvaro Arbeloa is desperate to secure his first League win as manager of Fulham.

The defeat at Ipswich Town will have really hurt and built up plenty of pressure on the Spaniard who was seen as something of a left field appointment after it was announced.

Alvaro Arbeloa has big shoes to fill following Marco Silva, but Fulham have not quite responded as hoped and this is feels like an important fixture for him.

At the start of the season, Fulham fans would have been pretty expectant when hosting any newly promoted club, but Hull City have made a very positive start to life back at this level.

Where Fulham have struggled for positive results, Hull City have continued to dig in and produce what is needed and having 9 points on the board already is a solid foundation to build from.

Last weekend they secured another point and Hull City have been showing a bit more bite in the final third in recent outings.

However, it should also be noted that they are giving up a few more chances than it felt they had been earlier in the season. That is something Fulham can exploit having scored 5 home League goals already, although Hull City will note the 7 Fulham have conceded at Craven Cottage and expect to create opportunities of their own.

Goals at both ends have to be expected- that would be a winner in all 3 home Fulham games played this season and in 4 of the 6 Premier League games overall, while that would also have come in as a winner in each of the last 3 Hull City League games played.

A 1-1 scoreline could be a runner, but the feeling is that there will be more attacking football on display in this part of West London than some may think and backing this fixture to end with at least three goals shared out is the play.
