There will be a huge amount of frustration within the Tampa Bay Rays camp that they have fallen 2-0 behind in the World Series having suffered narrow defeats in different ways over the past few days. Historically this has placed the Rays in a very difficult spot, but the World Series will shift to Tropicana Field for the next three games and Tampa Bay need at least two wins to force a return to the Milwaukee Brewers.

The fine margins have been worked better by the Brewers and the rally from falling 4-0 behind in Game 2 to eventually come through 5-4 will have really hurt the Tampa Bay Rays. Once again the bullpen closed down the threats and having a day off between games will help those relievers rebuild some of the energy that has been used.

Once again, both teams are going with starters who have performed well in the Playoffs and the Rays and Brewers will be hoping each starting pitcher can chew through the Innings. It certainly feels important for the Tampa Bay Rays who have not got enough from the first two pitchers that have begun Series, but there is an additional storyline at play when Freddy Peralta heads to the mound.

Freddy Peralta spent his first eight seasons in the Major Leagues with the Milwaukee Brewers and left for the New York Mets ahead of the 2026 season. It did not go well for the starting pitcher, nor the Mets, and a trade to the Tampa Bay Rays gave Peralta an opportunity to bounce back and he has grabbed that with both hands.

Not only did Freddy Peralta conclude the regular season looking like the pitcher who had so much success with the Brewers, but Peralta has followed that up in four appearances in the Playoffs in 2026. He has thrown almost 17 Innings in those four appearances and Freddy Peralta has a 1.08 ERA and that is form that is stronger than what was produced in a Milwaukee uniform last year.

Familiarity with the Milwaukee batting lineup has to give Freddy Peralta some confidence, but he did give up seven runs when withdrawn in the 6th Inning in his only start against them in July as a member of the Mets.

The Brewers will counter by handing the ball to Robert Gasser and the third year pitcher has followed a solid enough regular season by throwing with some confidence in his second year pitching in the Playoffs. Last season Robert Gasser was used as a reliever, but he has started in two Playoff games in 2026 and Milwaukee have been pleased to see him act as more than the Opener some expected him to be.

Instead, Robert Gasser has pitched 9 Innings in his two starts and has a 1.00 ERA, although he will be facing the Tampa Bay Rays for the first time.

Prediction

The momentum is firmly behind the Milwaukee Brewers and they have shown they can do things a little bit better than the Tampa Bay Rays, although the teams are very similar with the approach taken.

The Rays are going to have Freddy Peralta on the mound, but his one and only start against his former team ended in him giving up plenty of runs back in July.

It has to be a concern for the home team, who are in a desperate position, while they are also going to be facing a starter in Robert Gasser who has two solid starts in the Playoffs.

Robert Gasser has not pitched against the Tampa Bay Rays before, but he may give the Brewers enough Innings before turning things over to the bullpen and that could see Milwaukee move to one win away from winning the World Series for the first time.

Both teams have racked up the Hits in the first two games of the World Series and that is a testament to a patient batting lineup who will see off enough pitches to find the one they like.

Being back at home should help the Rays, but the Milwaukee Brewers have looked a bit more confident with what they are doing and may have enough to edge another victory.
