2026-10-27 - Koln vs Union Berlin

A Sports Betting Preview by Niko

Köln v Union Berlin
Football; Germany: DFB-Pokal 2nd Round
RheinEnergie Stadion – Köln
Tuesday, 27th October 2026 - kickoff 20:45 CET

Köln

Köln were held to a goalless draw by Schalke 04 last Saturday, despite creating the better chances. That result extended their unbeaten home run in the Bundesliga to four matches (two wins, two draws), where they have looked much more convincing so far.

Coach René Wagner said he wants his team to improve its threat from set pieces and turn possession into goals. That will matter against Union Berlin, who have been difficult to beat in their most recent league games.

Köln remain without Imad Rondić, Rav van den Berg, Thijs Dallinga, Ellyes Skhiri and Timo Hübers. Ragnar Ache is a late fitness decision.

Union Berlin

Union Berlin drew 1-1 away to Augsburg last time out, recovering after falling behind. They have not had a smooth start to the Bundesliga campaign, winning only once in 7 games, but their ability to respond under pressure could prove useful in a knockout tie.

Mauro Lustrinelli’s side will look to move forward quickly and punish any gaps behind Köln’s defense. The hosts have been strong at home, though, and Union Berlin cannot rely on Köln missing their chances again.

With both clubs in the lower half of the Bundesliga, this should be a closely contested match.

The Betting Verdict

I think Köln will qualify, but I would not treat this as a comfortable home win.

Their home performances have been solid, and they created enough against Schalke 04 last weekend to suggest the attack can do more than the scoreline showed.

Union Berlin can make this awkward, but I still believe Köln will win and go through.

The Pick :
