Preview

Since the expansion of the Major League Playoff format to move the Championship Series to a best of seven contest rather than a best of five, no team has swept through that Round and the World Series.

The Milwaukee Brewers are in a position to do that having followed the sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers by taking a 3-0 lead over the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2026 World Series.

Momentum is firmly with the Brewers who have won the first three games in very different ways, but it is the Offensive output of Game 3 that really makes it difficult to see how they blow this lead. Only once has a team recovered from 3-0 down to win a Major League Playoff Series and the Tampa Bay Rays have been struggling in almost all aspects of their Baseball and been overwhelmed by an opponent who has a similar approach, but who have been much more efficient with that.

A starter has not been announced by the Brewers, but most are expecting this to be a bullpen dominated game and that is not a positive for Tampa Bay. They have struggled to impact the relievers through the first three games and the performance of Robert Gasser and the ten runs scored by Milwaukee on Monday means the bullpen is well rested and with all of the arms ready to close the show.

The Rays have now got their backs against the wall and they need to find something Offensively having struggled throughout the World Series. Inconsistent performances were also produced in the American League Championship Series, but the pitching staff had kept Tampa Bay in games and that has not happened in the World Series.

Griffin Jax will be given the ball to start Game 4, but he has had a tough time in the post-season and has allowed four runs in just 6 Innings thrown. The last outing saw Jax throw 4 Innings in a start against the Cleveland Guardians, but he allowed three runs in that time and giving this Brewers team a head-start will make things very difficult for Tampa Bay.

Earlier this season, Griffin Jax came out of the bullpen to pitch twice against the Milwaukee Brewers and he ended with a 0-1 record and 27.00 ERA. That is largely down to the second appearance when Griffin Jax failed to record an Out and allowed Milwaukee to score three earned runs, while picking up the decision loss.

Prediction

We have seen plenty of fight from the Tampa Bay Rays all season and they did finish with the top Seed in the American League, but the bats have gone ice cold at the worst time.

They are not going to get a lot of change out of the relievers that are going to be finding a way through Game 4 for the Milwaukee Brewers and that puts plenty of pressure on Griffin Jax, who will be starting for Tampa Bay.

He is going to be pitching against a Milwaukee team who are seeing the baseball as if it is a basketball and the Brewers have found plenty of Hits throughout the World Series.

Eventually they have begun to turn those into plenty of runs and Milwaukee may be ready to make history with sweeps through the Championship Series and World Series for the first time in the back to back best of seven games format.
