SV Elversberg have to put two disappointing results behind them quickly. After beating Augsburg 4-3 at home, Vincent Wagner's side lost 4-0 at RB Leipzig and then dropped out of the DFB Pokal against SV Darmstadt 98, losing 0-2 despite creating plenty of chances. They managed 26 shots against SV Darmstadt 98 but still failed to score.

SV Elversberg have scored 12 goals in seven Bundesliga matches, so they can make life difficult for Mainz. Their defensive record is less convincing, with 15 goals conceded. Now SV Elversberg need to be more efficient in both boxes if they want to take points from this one.

Mainz have scored 16 goals in seven Bundesliga games, but their 13 conceded show they haven't found the right balance yet. Still, they have won all three of their Bundesliga away matches so far against Hamburger SV, Borussia Monchengladbach, and Schalke 04, teams with qualities close to SV Elversberg.

Nadiem Amiri's availability is uncertain after he missed the midweek cup game with knee discomfort, while Dominik Kohr and Silas are among the other reported absentees.
