Preview

It has been a Playoff of 'maybes' for the Picks on these pages and Game 4 of the World Series encapsulated that- three Outs were needed for a winning selection, but runs were allowed to switch a winning selection to a losing one.

The Tampa Bay Rays and all associated with that team will not care less about the Pick made and instead have done what is needed to force a Game 5 and avoid an embarrassing sweep. It is also good news for Major League Baseball fans with the extension of the 2026 season considering most are expecting a lockout and a delayed start to 2027 in a best case scenario (with the worst case being the entire season being scrapped).

Now the challenge for the Tampa Bay Rays is to do enough to have to pack their suitcases and head back to Milwaukee for a Game 6 on Friday.

There will be some regret in the Milwaukee Brewers dugout- they had been the better team again and taking the lead at the top of the 12th Inning would have had some thinking about celebrating becoming World Champions. Instead an error right away allowed the Rays to bring a tying run onto base and the Rays then pummelled the latest reliever to come out of the bullpen to turn the tables and make sure a Game 5 is needed.

Putting everything on the line to win Game 4 is not a surprise, but it does leave the Tampa Bay Rays with big decisions to make.

Nick Martinez was going to be the expected starter in Game 5, but was needed as a reliever with the last game going into Extra Innings and a number of the starting rotation are not really ready to fill in. This means the Rays are going to have to rely on a shaky bullpen to find a way through this game, and that becomes that much more of a difficult task when thinking the Brewers can turn back to Jacob Misiorowski.

A second year pitcher, Jacob Misiorowski has had to deal with different nerves pitching in a Playoff setting and that has contributed to not being as dominant as he has been in the regular season. He does have a 1-0 record and 2.70 ERA in his three Playoff starts, but Misiorowski has been a little inefficient and that has meant yet to pitch into the 6th Inning.

He will take confidence from the fact that his best Playoff start came in Game 1 of the World Series when restricting the Tampa Bay Rays to a single run in 5 completed Innings. Jacob Misiorowski only needed 78 Pitches to get through those Innings and so the Brewers will be confident he can get through a number in Game 5 before turning things back over to the bullpen.

Two of the leading relievers did have to get through plenty of work on Tuesday, which is a potential factor, but you have to believe the Brewers will call on Ashton Ashby and Abner Uribe if they are needed to close out the show.

However, it may also mean the Rays are willing to let Jacob Misiorowski go a little longer in a bid to give the bullpen a shortened outing.

Prediction

It will be interesting to see how the Milwaukee Brewers respond to getting as close as three Outs from winning the World Series and instead having to play another full game at Tropicana Field.

They do benefit from having a starter going out to the mound rather than the problems the Tampa Bay Rays are going to have in their bid to complete 9 Innings.

Jacob Misiorowski should be more than ready to go and that gives the Brewers the edge over the Tampa Bay Rays with the road team taking the steps needed to win the World Series.
