Tottenham Hotspur
They weathered a bit of a storm, but by the end of the ninety minutes at Stamford Bridge, Tottenham Hotspur were deserved winners and Roberto De Zerbi has to be feeling much more comfortable in the manager's seat. Earlier this season the performances had not been rewarded with the points that Spurs could have picked up, but things have improved over the last few weeks and the team will feel they are on the up.
Three more points means Tottenham Hotspur are up into 14th place in the Premier League table and they have now secured 9 points and can begin to think with a much more positive mindset. The side have a 1-1-2 record in their home in North London and Tottenham Hotspur have scored 5 goals and conceded 6 in those games.
Tottenham Hotspur are unbeaten in 3 Premier League games and they have secured consecutive League wins over Coventry City and Chelsea, which is the second time they have managed to do that in Roberto De Zerbi's relatively short tenure in charge. A run of 3 home games without a victory was ended in the 3-1 win over Coventry City, but Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to win 2 in a row in front of the supporters for the first time since early December 2025.
Rodrigo Bentancur completes his suspension, while Destiny Udogie, Tosin Adarabioyo and James Maddison are doubts.
Crystal Palace
After guiding Crystal Palace into the League Cup Quarter Final, Pierre Sage may feel some of the pressure has been eased on his shoulders after a difficult beginning to life managing at Selhurst Park. Cup successes are one thing, but Crystal Palace's board also expect to retain Premier League status and Sage has to prove he is capable of leading the team effectively within the Division.
The home defeat to Newcastle United dropped Crystal Palace into 17th place in the Premier League table and The Eagles are guaranteed to be kicking off inside the bottom three with the game scheduled in the late afternoon slot. This is going to add to the pressure on a team that has a 1-1-2 away record in the Premier League where Crystal Palace have scored 3 goals, but conceded 9.
Crystal Palace returned from the international break to beat Oliver Glasner's new team Nottingham Forest, but they had not won any of 4 games in all competitions and lost 3 of those before the battling 0-1 win at Fulham in the League Cup. The squad will be expected to perform much better than they did in the last away Premier League game, which ended in a 5-0 defeat to rivals Brighton.
Ismaila Sarr and Jorgen Strand Larsen are both doubts for this weekend.
Head to Head
Both Premier League games between these London rivals were won by the away team last season and Crystal Palace have won 3 of the last 4 overall against Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs had won 8 in a row at home against Crystal Palace, but have suffered consecutive home defeats to this rival.
Prediction
Football, like many sports, is one in which the narrative can change pretty quickly and Tottenham Hotspur and Roberto De Zerbi have to be feeling really confident this weekend.
Consecutive Premier League wins will have given everyone a lift and Tottenham Hotspur are also seeing some of the injuries clear up, although James Maddison could be a big absentee in this one.]
Despite that, Spurs have beaten Coventry City and Chelsea over the last two weeks and the results are now backing up the performances. The manager has been insisting Tottenham Hotspur have deserved more than they have got earlier this season, but De Zerbi will know it is results that matter most and his team have earned those.
The next challenge for the manager and the squad is winning back to back Premier League games, which Tottenham Hotspur have not managed in virtually two years. That is a remarkable run, but Tottenham Hotspur are hosting an opponent whose own manager is now feeling the pressure that has been lifted from De Zerbi.
Pierre Sage has guided Crystal Palace into the League Cup Quarter Final and he will feel that his team deserved a bit of luck having had little in the Premier League. He is working for a board that is known for showing patience with managers, but that patience will be tested with Crystal Palace kicking off inside the bottom three.
Since Oliver Glasner's departure, Crystal Palace have struggled for consistency and balance in their football.
Some of the attacking players have not been happy, which has not helped, but Pierre Sage has perhaps been guilty of trying to change the methods too rapidly and that has left The Eagles vulnerable at the back.
To their credit, Crystal Palace have been a bit more resilient away from home outside of the 5-0 defeat to Brighton- they have conceded 4 goals in the other 3 away Premier League games played!
Ultimately they have lacked a bit of spark in the final third with the team failing to score in 3 of the 4 away Premier League games played and that may give Tottenham Hotspur the edge to just about secure the three points after a battle.
