This game is live on TV

Aston Villa

For all of the successes Aston Villa have enjoyed under the guidance of Unai Emery, having a deep run in the League Cup has not been something they have experienced and they were beaten in the Fourth Round of the competition during the week. Some of the fringe players failed to impress, but Aston Villa will still be very happy with the work they have done this month and will be looking to conclude October with another three points.

The side moved up into 9th place in the Premier League table last weekend following a win over the current leaders and Aston Villa are back within 4 points of the top four places. Becoming a consistent Champions League participant is the ambition and The Villans will be looking to improve the 1-1-2 home record to get closer to those top four positions at the end of the ninety minutes.

Aston Villa's 7 game unbeaten run was ended emphatically in the 3-0 defeat at Bournemouth in the League Cup Fourth Round on Wednesday. Everyone will be hoping for a big reaction to that defeat and Aston Villa are back at Villa Park where they are unbeaten in 4 games in all competitions and have won 3 in a row.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Matteo Ruggeri and Amadou Onana look to be only absentees ahead of another big week for the club.

Fulham

Just when the pressure looked to have intensified, Alvaro Arbeloa has guided Fulham to a couple of wins over newly promoted Premier League clubs to give his new team some momentum. He looked far from happy after the League Cup exit on Wednesday in a narrow 0-1 defeat to Crystal Palace, but the Premier League is the priority and Fulham will be looking to improve their top flight run.

The League wins secured this month has pushed Fulham up into 15th place in the Premier League table and a couple of points clear of the bottom three, although they play last on Saturday and the table may look significantly different at kick off. They will be travelling to the West Midlands with a 1-1-2 away record where Fulham have scored 2 goals and conceded 3.

Fulham conceded two goals very late on when losing to Ipswich Town at Portman Road, but bounced back to beat both Hull City and Coventry City by the same 1-0 scoreline. It was a reverse of that scoreline that saw Fulham beaten in the League Cup Fourth Round during the week, but they have lost just 1 of the last 4 away games in all competitions.

Ryan Sessegnon completes his suspension, while Emile Smith Rowe is a doubt.

Head to Head

Both Premier League fixtures between Aston Villa and Fulham were won by the home team last season.

Aston Villa came from behind to beat Fulham 3-1 at Villa Park last season and have now beaten this opponent 7 times in a row at home.

Prediction

Both of these teams have picked up confidence building wins in the Premier League in October, but Aston Villa and Fulham suffered disappointing exits in the League Cup Fourth Round on Wednesday.

Out of the two teams, Aston Villa can at least point to the fact that Unai Emery made a host of changes in the defeat at the Vitality Stadium and those fringe players cannot really expect to start this one. Key players being restored should see a better performance and Aston Villa have won 3 in a row here, including beating Manchester City last weekend.

It may be a transitional squad, but there is enough experience within the Aston Villa ranks to give the players confidence when facing a Fulham team they have beaten 7 times in a row at Villa Park.

Unai Emery's team have shown some real attacking intent in recent games and that may be too much for Fulham to deal with having failed to score again on Wednesday.

Scoring goals has been a season long problem under Alvaro Arbeloa, but that has been most evident away from home where Fulham have managed to move the scoreboard twice.

Credit has to be given to them for showing a bit of resilience on their travels with clean sheets at Liverpool and Coventry City, where Fulham won last weekend, but Arbeloa will know his team need more in the final third.

Aston Villa will give up some chances, but they look to have the firepower to keep the pressure on this opponent and The Villans can secure another home three points against Fulham.
