Bayer Leverkusen had a poor afternoon at TSG Hoffenheim last week, losing 3-0 and ending a five-match unbeaten run in the Bundesliga. They bounced back midweek, beating Nürnberg 5-2 in the DFB Pokal after falling behind 0-2.

Their attack is still producing goals, even if the last Bundesliga outing was a setback. Bayer Leverkusen have scored 2+ goals in all 10 competitive games under coach Carles Martinez before their defeat against TSG Hoffenheim last week.

Sebastian Hoeness’ team did at least get a cup win in midweek, beating SC Paderborn 0-1, with Deniz Undav scoring right before the final whistle and preventing another possible humiliation.

Despite the midweek cup win, their league problems remain, and a trip to Leverkusen is a tough test with their confidence low.

VfB Stuttgart will also miss their midfielder Angelo Stiller after he picked up an adductor injury in the cup. Leo Sauer is also unavailable, and Josha Vagnoman, Tiago Tomás and Dan-Axel Zagadou are among the other absentees. Losing Stiller is a particular blow given his importance in midfield.

The Betting Verdict

Bayer Leverkusen’s defeat against TSG Hoffenheim makes me a little cautious, but their home form gives me more confidence. They have won all three Bundesliga games at the Bay Arena, plus they came back from two goals down to win 5-2 at home in the midweek cup match.

On the other side, VfB Stuttgart have already lost five times in seven matches. Stiller’s absence is another problem for the visitors.

Here I would go with the home win for Bayer Leverkusen. Patrick Schick is in good scoring form, and Bayer Leverkusen should create enough chances to trouble a shaky VfB Stuttgart defense.
