Tuesday 3rd November 2026 - Kick Off 8pm
This game is live on TV

Barcelona

Despite being beaten in the Champions League for the first time on Match Day 3, Barcelona will be looking to put themselves in a very strong position to Qualify for the Last 16 directly once half of the Group fixtures are played by the end of Wednesday evening. A top eight spot is the ambition for Barcelona who are looking to bounce back after the 4-2 defeat to defending European Champions Paris Saint-Germain.

It has been a difficult couple of weeks for Barcelona who have also been beaten by Real Madrid in the first Classico of the season, but they will return to Champions League action in confident mood. The side are 8th in the table in this competitions having picked up 6 points and Barcelona are back at home on Tuesday having opened the Champions League campaign with a thumping 5-1 win over Feyenoord.

Barcelona have played 14 games in all competitions this season and have won 12 of those, but the 6-1 win over Alaves this past weekend snapped a sequence in which they had lost consecutive games. The side had won 9 in a row at the Camp Nou in all competitions before the late defeat to Real Madrid, but have bounced back thanks to the thumping success a few days ago.

Defensive injuries continue to blight the squad, but Barcelona have the same availability as they did in the last fixture played.

Aston Villa

There are plenty of positives to take after the performances and results between the last international break and the one coming up, but Unai Emery will still be looking for a bit more consistency from his team. On Saturday, Aston Villa dropped more points in the Premier League, but the team have made a perfect start to the Champions League and will once again be targeting a top eight finish.

Five teams will enter Match Day 4 of the Champions League with a perfect record and Aston Villa are one of those having already beaten Club Brugge, Fenerbahce and Viking. However, suffice to say that this is the toughest test in the competition so far for the current Europa League holders.

Aston Villa's draw with Fulham means they have lost 1 of the last 9 games in all competitions and even that was with a much changed starting eleven in the League Cup Fourth Round. Prior to that defeat at the Vitality Stadium, Aston Villa had won 4 away games in a row in all competitions.

Unai Emery may choose to freshen up his squad a little bit with a big game at Old Trafford coming up before the international break. Key players will still be involved in this Champions League game, but rotation has to be expected.

Head to Head

Barcelona and Aston Villa are meeting for the first time since the latter won the European Super Cup over two Legs back in 1983.

Aston Villa overturned a 1-0 away defeat to win 3-0 at home and add the Super Cup to the European Cup they had won at the end of the previous season.

This is the third time Barcelona will have hosted Aston Villa in a competitive fixture and they have won the previous 2 in March 1978 and January 1983.

Prediction

Any time Barcelona head out onto the field, you have to expect to see plenty of goals and that is likely to be the case on Match Day 4 of the Champions League Group Stage.

More often than not, Barcelona tend to end up on the right side of any high-scoring encounter and it is tough to make a case for anything else when they host Aston Villa on Tuesday.

Unai Emery's tactics should mean his team can create chances, but the Aston Villa manager may have one eye on the big game at Old Trafford to round out this set of games before the November international break. He has a squad that is getting more and more comfortable in each passing week, but the likes of Johan Manzambi and Nicolas Jackson are also having minutes managed and it would not be a big surprise if both are rotated in this one.

Aston Villa have already secured 9 points in the Champions League and will feel they are well on the way to another top eight finish.

This could mean the focus is not completely on this trip to the Camp Nou and that could be exploited by the home team.

Barcelona have secured two big wins over Feyenoord and Galatasaray in the Champions League already and they should have the firepower to win this Match Day 4 by a couple of goals at the least.
