2026-11-06 - Hamburger SV vs Borussia Monchengladbach

A Sports Betting Preview by Niko

Hamburger SV v Borussia Mönchengladbach
Football; Germany: Bundesliga
Volksparkstadion – Hamburg
Friday, 06th November 2026 - kickoff 20:30 CET

Hamburger SV

Hamburger SV have had a frustrating few weeks. After losing their first three Bundesliga matches, Merlin Polzin's side picked up three successive wins against Köln, TSG Hoffenheim and VfB Stuttgart. However, they have since lost three games in a row in all competitions, including two defeats against Eintracht Frankfurt that ended their DFB Pokal run.

The Bundesliga defeat to SC Paderborn and the 3-1 loss away to Eintracht Frankfurt have left Hamburger SV 15th with nine points from eight matches. Their defensive record is a concern, with 19 goals conceded already.

Hamburger SV also have several players unavailable, including Nicolai Remberg, Fabio Vieira and Bilal Nadir. Nicolas Capaldo, Sebastiaan Bornauw and Yussuf Poulsen are doubts for this match.

There is still some reason for optimism at home. Hamburger SV have beaten VfB Stuttgart and Köln at their Volksparkstadion this season. They need another performance like those if they want to put some distance between themselves and the bottom three.

Borussia Monchengladbach

Borussia Mönchengladbach are bottom of the table with just four points, but there have been signs of improvement since Alexander Blessin took charge. They ended their six-game losing streak with a 2-3 away win over VfB Stuttgart, then followed it up with a 0-0 draw against SC Paderborn.

The situation is familiar. Borussia Mönchengladbach were also bottom after eight Bundesliga rounds last season, with only three points, but recovered to finish 12th. That should offer some encouragement, although they still have plenty of work to do.

Their biggest problem remains the defence. Borussia Mönchengladbach have conceded 22 goals in eight Bundesliga games, while injuries have also affected their options. Tim Kleindienst, Hugo Bolin, Enzo Leopold and Jan Leszczyński are among the unavailable players, with Moritz Nicolas and Franck Honorat doubtful.

The Betting Verdict

I find this one difficult to call. Hamburger SV have the home advantage, but their recent results and injury situation are worrying.

Borussia Mönchengladbach have finally started picking up points and looked much better in their last two Bundesliga games. Both defences have been shaky, so I am more interested in the goals market than picking a winner.

I like Over 2.5 Goals at around 1.67. Seven of Borussia Mönchengladbach's eight league matches have produced at least three goals, and Hamburger SV have conceded 19 times already. With both sides needing points, I expect an open game with chances at both ends.
