This game is live on TV

Everton

Failing to earn a spot in European Football leaves clubs vulnerable to being asked to play on Monday, but the November international break means the scheduling looks tough on Everton in the final round of Premier League games for a fortnight. They won at St James' Park on Monday evening, but David Moyes' team have to come out and play on Friday Night Football just a few days later.

There will be some internal frustrations with the broadcasters, but Everton fans will arrive at Hill Dickinson Stadium in confident mood after the team moved up into 7th place in the Premier League table. David Moyes has made it clear that his ambition is to take Everton back into Europe and he will be keen for his players to improve the 2-1-1 home record in the top flight.

Everton had not enjoyed the return from the last international break having drawn at Hull City before consecutive defeats to Chelsea and Arsenal. However, consecutive wins over Newcastle United in the League Cup and Premier League will have just given the squad a lift. Everton have won 3 of the last 4 games played at Hill Dickinson Stadium in all competitions.

Jack Grealish has been banished from the squad for disciplinary reasons and he is unlikely to be allowed back ahead of the November international break. Jarrad Branthwaite came off with some cramping issues on Monday, but will be hopeful he can be involved.

Coventry City

Frank Lampard would have bemoaned the timing of the last international break as it began just after Coventry City's first Premier League win of the season. Concerns about failing to build on that momentum have been unfounded though and Lampard will be really pleased with his team who beat another opponent from the North East of England when seeing off Sunderland last weekend.

The three points earned has pushed The Sky Blues up into 16th place in the Premier League table and 9 points already secured means they are a couple clear of the bottom three. A 1-0-3 away record has seen Coventry City score 2 goals, but concede 7 in this Division.

Coventry City have won 3 of the last 5 Premier League games to build up some positive momentum and the victory over Sunderland snapped a run of consecutive top flight defeats. The last away Premier League game played ended in Coventry City's 3-1 loss at Tottenham Hotspur.

Bobby Thomas and Frank Onyeka are both doubts for this fixture and will need to pass fitness tests.

Head to Head

Everton and Coventry City last met in the 2000/01 top flight season and both clubs were able to win away fixtures at grounds that are no longer hosting Premier League games.

Everton won just 2 of the last 10 games at Goodison Park against Coventry City.

Prediction

Both of these clubs beat North East Premier League representatives last weekend, but Coventry City do benefit from having a couple more days of rest before this fixture on Friday evening.

Everton are hosting though and David Moyes has to be pleased that a poor summer transfer window has yet to come back and haunt his squad.

The criticism is much more about the numbers that Moyes can call upon, rather than the quality that he does have to manage, but everyone associated with Everton were disappointed with the board.

Fortunately for the manager, Everton have been able to avoid serious injuries and a settled team does have enough time to recover and be ready to produce. That will be tested in December in the notoriously difficult festive period, but for now Everton are playing with confidence and belief and even a slight improvement in composure shown in the final third could see The Toffees maintain current momentum.

They were clinical in the 3-1 win over Newcastle United in the League Cup, but Everton did not show the same at St James' Park on Monday even if they did manage to come through 0-1.

David Moyes will feel his team can create plenty of chances against a Coventry City team that have been put under pressure.

However, Frank Lampard's men have found a way to win games over the last several weeks and that will have given the team some confidence. Coventry City were well beaten at Tottenham Hotspur in the last away game played, but this is a team that will work hard and try and make things difficult for the hosts.

Neutrals tuning in should see a decent football game on Friday night, but the edge has to be with Everton.

This is a team that have found goals easier to come by at home, rather than on their travels, and Everton may have enough in the final third to wear down Coventry City for an important three points.
