However, Köln have scored only 9 Bundesliga goals so far, and their injury list is a concern. Timo Hübers, Thijmen Dallinga, Ragnar Ache, Ellyes Skhiri, Rayan van den Berg and Sasa Rondić are listed as unavailable, with Joel Schmied also doubtful.

Bayer Leverkusen have lost their last two Bundesliga matches, first going down 3-0 at TSG Hoffenheim before suffering a 2-4 home defeat against VfB Stuttgart. Their defensive problems continued on Thursday, when Marseille won 0-1 at the BayArena in the Europa League.

That was Leverkusen's fourth match in 12 days, and they now face a derby away from home with little recovery time. Their attack remains productive, with 18 Bundesliga goals, but several attacking options are missing.

Carles Martínez's side have won the last four meetings with Köln, including a 1-2 victory in April. They have the stronger squad on paper, but their recent defensive performances and demanding schedule make this a tougher game.
