SC Freiburg have collected 16 points from their opening eight Bundesliga matches, their second-best return at this stage of a season. Their 18 goals are also a new club record, showing how well Julian Schuster's team have started in attack.

They recovered from consecutive Bundesliga defeats against Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich with a 1-2 away win against Augsburg last week.

SC Freiburg then travelled to Turkey for Thursday's UEFA Conference League match against Trabzonspor, where Lukas Kübler's first-half goal secured a 0-1 victory. Schuster rotated his attack for that game, bringing Vincenzo Grifo, Keisuke Goto, Cyriaque Irié and Igor Matanovic into the starting line-up. Patrick Osterhage missed the trip with a muscle problem, while Florent Muslija remains unavailable.

The European win was important, but SC Freiburg now have another match just three days later. They will need to manage their energy, particularly after the long trip to Turkey.

Union Berlin

Union Berlin have gone four Bundesliga matches without a defeat (three draws), although their approach has been very cautious.

Union Berlin have conceded only twice and scored three goals during that run, with three consecutive draws against Borussia Dortmund, Augsburg and Köln following their win over SV Elversberg.

Their latest 1-1 draw with Köln was another example of their limited attacking output. Union Berlin took the lead but could not hold on, and they remain in the relegation zone. The 5-0 DFB Cup defeat against Köln in October also showed what can happen when their defensive structure breaks down.

Mauro Lustrinelli will again be without Felix Uduokhai, who is serving the second match of his suspension. Andrej Ilić, Robert Skov, Stanley N'Soki and Andrik Markgraf are also listed as unavailable.

The Betting Verdict

SC Freiburg have scored freely this season, but Union Berlin have made themselves difficult to break down in the Bundesliga.

The hosts also have a European trip in their legs, so I don't expect an easy afternoon for them. Union Berlin's recent defensive record makes the visitors with a two-goal cushion the safer side.

SC Freiburg have also failed to beat Union Berlin in six straight duels, drawing three times and losing three.
