Brighton
A strong start to the season has everyone pulling in the same direction and Fabian Hurzeler has asked the Brighton fans to 'dream' about what may be achieved at the end of the season. The win in Getafe in the Conference League is a reminder of the power of the English Premier League and Brighton will be favourites to win that trophy and follow the likes of West Ham United, Chelsea and rivals Crystal Palace in doing that.
Balancing European and domestic commitments can be challenging for inexperienced clubs, but Brighton are also 3rd in the Premier League table and 5 points behind Champions, and leaders, Arsenal. The Seagulls have a 3-1-0 record at the Amex Stadium where they have scored 13 goals and conceded once this season.
Brighton followed the Premier League defeat at Liverpool by losing at Manchester City in the League Cup Fourth Round, but they earned revenge over the latter last weekend when winning at the Etihad Stadium before doing the same in Spain. The side play at home for the first time in three weeks since the 5-0 thumping of Crystal Palace and Brighton have won 5 of the 6 games played at the Amex Stadium in all competitions this season.
A number of changes were made to the starting lineup in order to freshen things up, but Brighton will need Pascal Struijk, Ferdi Kadioglu and Femi Azeez to pass fitness tests.
Brentford
It has not been the most productive month between international breaks for Keith Andrews and his Brentford team, but the 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest last weekend will provide a boost. Fans of this Premier League club will see the likes of Sunderland and Brighton playing in European competition this season and that is the target for Brentford at the conclusion of this campaign.
Three points earned last weekend has moved Brentford back up to 6th in the Premier League table and they have 14 points so far this season. The Bees will be aware that they need to start turning a few draws into wins if they are going to achieve all they want and they travel to the South Coast with a 0-4-0 away record.
Brentford had not won any of 4 games in all competitions after the last international break and they had been beaten twice in that run, but the win over Nottingham Forest has snapped the streak. They were beaten 3-2 at Sunderland in the League Cup Fourth Round, while Brentford have not won any of the last 9 away Premier League games. However, the last 5 of those have all ended in draws.
Yegor Yarmoliuk has returned from a suspension. Rico Henry, Fabio Carvalho, Antoni Milambo and Joshua Dasilva could be back in contention following the next international break.
Head to Head
Brighton completed the Premier League double over Brentford last season.
The Seagulls are unbeaten in 5 at home against Brentford since both have been playing in the Premier League and they have won 3 times.
Prediction
There is a rivalry in the boardroom of these two overachieving clubs that means there is usually more on the line when Brighton and Brentford face one another.
Both have made positive starts to the new season, but earning a strong result ahead of the November international break will be the target this weekend.
Brighton are returning from playing a Conference League game in Spain, although it was a fixture where Fabian Hurzeler utilised his squad and key players should be ready.
The Seagulls have won 1 and lost 1 after the opening Conference League Group games, but it is a test for the squad to play away from home on Thursday and be ready to compete on Sunday afternoon.
Playing at the Amex Stadium will help, but Brighton are hosting a Brentford team who have been very tough to beat, especially away from home. All 4 away Premier League games have ended in draws for Keith Andrews' men and they have drawn on 2 of the last 5 visits to this ground.
Brighton have got the better of the other 3 games, but have had to come from behind in a couple of those victories. Last season they scored twice in the final twenty minutes to beat Brentford 2-1 and it may be more difficult to bounce back having travelled back from Spain just prior to this fixture.
They are odds on to win this game, which is not a surprise on the form Brighton have been producing.
However, it feels like the home team are short enough and Brentford have shown they are very competitive when facing this opponent and another draw in an away game cannot be ruled out.
If Brentford can score first again, they may see Brighton run out of steam late in the game and a 1-1 scoreline looks a runner.
