Sunday 8th November 2026 - Kick Off 2pm
This game is live on TV

Crystal Palace

A late goal helped Crystal Palace salvage a point in the Europa League on Thursday, but the fans are not very happy and the board have reportedly been sounding out potential replacements for Pierre Sage. It would be hard to make a case for Sage to keep the job as Crystal Palace manager with a big result on Sunday, especially ahead of a two week international break.

The Eagles are 18th in the Premier League table with 7 points on the board, but a victory could see them out of the relegation places through the next fortnight. However, a defeat on Sunday could potentially mean slipping to bottom place in the Division and Crystal Palace have a 1-0-3 record at Selhurst Park where they have scored 6 goals, but conceded 10.

Crystal Palace have won 1 of the last 7 games in all competitions, while they have lost the last 3 Premier League games since beating Nottingham Forest. That victory was earned at Selhurst Park, but Crystal Palace have lost the next League game against Newcastle United before the draw with Hoffenheim.

Jean-Phillipe Mateta begins a domestic suspension after an appeal to overturn the decision was dismissed.

Liverpool

Virgil van Dijk came out and made a captain's statement after Liverpool's defeat to Fenerbahce in the Champions League and made it clear that the team need to defend better if they are going to achieve big successes in 2026/27. The Champions League position is still very comfortable, but Liverpool conceded three goals for the third straight game in the competition and that makes it very difficult to win matches consistently.

Andoni Iraola will be aware that Liverpool will need to be better, but the Champions League will resume later in the month and this weekend the focus is on bouncing back from the Premier League defeat against Champions Arsenal. The Reds are still 5th in the League table, and Liverpool will travel down to South London with a very positive 3-1-0 away record in the top flight.

Liverpool have not won any of the last 3 games in normal time, while they have suffered back to back defeats to Arsenal and Fenerbahce over the last week. Prior to failing to hold onto the lead twice in Istanbul on Wednesday, Liverpool had won 4 away games in a row in all competitions.

Ryan Gravenberch is a doubt, while the manager can bring in the likes of Ronald Araujo, Milos Kerkez, Cody Gakpo, Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak into the starting lineup.

Head to Head

Both Crystal Palace and Liverpool beat the other at home in the Premier League, while The Eagles won a League Cup tie at Anfield last season.

Liverpool had been unbeaten in 11 visits to Selhurst Park before the defeat last season, and most impressive is the fact they won 10 of those games.

Prediction

Both of these teams suffered disappointing Premier League results last weekend before facing setbacks in European competition, while Liverpool have to travel back from Istanbul.

They do have twenty-four hours longer to prepare for this fixture than Crystal Palace, who were being held to a draw by Hoffenheim on Thursday, but Pierre Sage's men were at home.

It may not make much of a difference for a team who have lost 3 of the 4 home games in the Premier League and especially if the squad have given up on Pierre Sage. Outwardly they are saying the right things about the manager, but the players will be aware that reports have the Crystal Palace board speaking to potential replacements, while goalscorer Daichi Kamada admitted the team have to be a lot better than they were against Hoffenheim if they are to achieve a positive result on Sunday.

There will be a hope that some of the Liverpool defensive vulnerabilities can be exploited, but the real issues have been in the Champions League when Andoni Iraola has rotated his squad. Captain Virgil van Dijk did not use that as an excuse, but it should be stated that Liverpool's defensive numbers in the Premier League have been a lot better.

Liverpool have conceded 6 goals in a couple of away Champions League games, but they have conceded 3 goals in 4 away Premier League games. That includes earning clean sheets in wins at Ipswich Town and Bournemouth and Liverpool have a rested set of attackers who will certainly feel they can provide the firepower to earn three points.

A long, dominant run at Selhurst Park was ended in a 2-1 defeat here in September 2025, but Liverpool should be the more settled and focused team.

If the Crystal Palace squad are thinking about a potential managerial change in the days ahead, they could be exposed and Liverpool can get back to winning ways at a ground where they have become accustomed to securing three points over the last two decades.
