Ipswich Town

Failing to score a second in the first half at Hull City ultimately cost Ipswich Town, but they did earn another Premier League point and the team are making a better fist of surviving at this level than they did two years ago. Gary O'Neil is experienced, and knows what is required, and he will want to see Ipswich Town continue to build.

They are 14th in the Premier League table and they are 4 points clear of the bottom three, while Ipswich Town will feel 11 points on the board keeps them well on track to do enough to avoid relegation. The Tractor Boys have a 2-1-1 record at Portman Road, which has been really important, and they have scored and conceded 5 goals in those matches.

Ipswich Town have lost 1 of the last 4 Premier League games and earning 5 points from a possible 12 will keep the confidence at a good level. In September they were beaten in consecutive home games by Liverpool and Arsenal- the latter in the League Cup- but Ipswich Town have since earned a win over Fulham and a fortuitous draw with Nottingham Forest in home games.

Sasa Lukic is hoping to be available and that would give the manager a full squad to choose from.

Bournemouth

A much changed Bournemouth team fell behind in Prague on Thursday in what was a fixture that was played the furthest distance from the Vitality Stadium in the history of the club. It is a reminder of how far Bournemouth have come and they battled back to get the better of Sparta Prague and remain perfect in the Europa League.

The hosts were reduced to ten men, but Bournemouth had missed a Penalty when the game was goalless before that and the depth of the squad helped them overcome Sparta Prague. Now they turn their attention back to the Premier League where Bournemouth have enjoyed a run of form that has moved them up into 8th place in the standings and only 4 points behind Chelsea in the top four.

Bournemouth won for the seventh time in a row on Thursday and there is a real confidence and momentum around this squad under manager Marco Rose. The Cherries have won 3 of the last 4 away games in all competitions and they have scored at least twice in each of those victories with the exception being Bournemouth's 5-1 loss at Chelsea.

A number of first team players will be restored to the starting lineup on Sunday afternoon, including Rayan and Evanilson who both scored on Thursday after coming off the bench. Alex Scott is closing on a return, but may be given the next fortnight to make sure he does not suffer a setback.

Head to Head

Two seasons ago, both Premier League fixtures between Ipswich Town and Bournemouth ended 1-2 in favour of the away team.

Ipswich Town had been unbeaten in 6 at Portman Road against Bournemouth before the 1-2 defeat here in December 2024.

Prediction

There is every chance that this could develop into a really entertaining, attacking fixture at Portman Road on Sunday when Ipswich Town host Bournemouth.

Gary O'Neil has asked his squad to take a positive approach to matches and that has seen Ipswich Town cause problems when they are on the front foot.

The problem is that it has left Ipswich Town quite open at the back and the likes of Fulham and Nottingham Forest will have left Portman Road believing they should have earned more points than they achieved from those games.

Now they face one of the most in-form teams in the Premier League and one that has been scoring goals for fun.

Hoping Bournemouth produce a wasteful display in the final third would be a mistake considering the amount of goals they have scored in a 7 game winning run.

Marco Rose will also be really pleased with the defensive work his team have gotten through and that gives them an edge in their bid to win for a second time in a row at this ground.

Playing the Thursday-Sunday schedule is challenging, and Bournemouth's sole away game in the Europa League before this week saw them lose in the Premier League days later. They have followed the home wins over Sturm Graz and Milan with Premier League wins over the last few weeks, but that is the one factor that reduces some of the enthusiasm for backing The Cherries here.

The team will have to start fast and see if they can dent the confidence of the Ipswich Town players, but Bournemouth may have to weather a late rally if they are going to win this game.

Ipswich Town have scored late goals to beat Sunderland and Fulham at Portman Road this season and so have to be respected, but Bournemouth are in the kind of form and momentum that makes them worthy of being backed in East Anglia ahead of the November international break.
