Wednesday 25th August 2010 - Kickoff 7:45pm
Tottenham Hotspur
As we all know first 30 minutes in Bern was total disaster for Spurs, who were 3-0 down. But later managed to answer with two goals and went home with quite positive result, minimal loss 3-2.
After the game Harry Redknapp was pleased with the lucky escape, but also mentioned that artificial pitch was one of the factors for so pure first half display by Tottenham.
On Saturday Tottenham had tricky away game in Premier League at Stoke. Spurs had only one fit striker for the game – Peter Crouch, but Gareth Bale was the main man, who scored two goals – one real shocker then the ball bounced of his face and went straight in to the net and another real cracker, and that was enough for Spurs to take all 3 points.
Spurs also signed ex Arsenal and Chelsea defender William Galas. But he was not registered for European competition so he will be unable to play against Young Boys in the second leg of Spurs' Champions League qualifier on Wednesday.
So far there is no news about Defoe and Keane fitness.
Young Boys Bern
Swiss team made small miracle in first match - except if you look at previous round at the Swiss Club eliminated Turkish side Fenerbahce wining away 1-0 and drawing 2-2 at home - so it seems that Young Boys are not pushovers.
Maybe YoungBouys do not have big stars in the team, but they are definitely not so bad as bookies odds says. And they proved it with goals scored in every game and two wins and a draw with teams were Young Boys were outsiders.
In last game in Swiss league Young Boys also beat strong Zurich 1-0. Goalscorer was Degen, who should be one of the main threads against Spurs.
Also Tottenham should beware of Lulic and Bienvenu, who already scored in first game in Bern.
There is no team news yet.
The Betting Verdict
If Spurs fail to eliminate Young Boys it would be disaster for London side. Every player knows it and with White Hart Lane loud support I expect them to attack from first minute of the game.
Scoring one goal would be good start but no more. They can’t stop because one goal from Young Boys turns everything upside down. And Young Boys showed in every game so far that they can score.
Odds for over 2.5 goals are only 1.5 at bet365. But instead I will take both teams to score – odds are 1.72 at bet365.
And I believe it’s better value for money, as Spurs defense is not brilliant and while they have to attack and score, it will leave some space for Young Boys to answer back.
