Introduction:
It is clear that Bayern Munich will start as the absolute favouites here but the Belgium side Anderlecht will hope to create an upset here. Last Saturday they did lose for the first time this season, so if Bayern repeats such a performance then Anderlecht has every reason to hope for an upset. However, Anderlecht is struggling in the Belgium Jupiler League at the moment and they are not justifying their status as Champions as they lost two matches and draw the other two.
Bayern Munich
Until their last match in the Bundesliga everything did go well for Bayern Munich. Then they came up against Hoffenheim in an away match and got beaten. They were beaten last season in the same away match and it happened once again where they failed to score. The fact that Bayern Munich dominated the match and had plenty of chances but it did not mean anything as they lost the macth in the end after they conceded two goals. And after that defeat they now only occupy the sixth place in the Bundesliga.
They also struggled against Bremen for the win, while Bayer Leverkusen had a lot of chances. There are reports that there are conflict in the club between their top scorer Lewandowski and the club management and problems with injuries of left backs Alaba and J. Bernat. They will also be without the suspended Vidal for this clash.
Anderlecht
The Belgium side will fancy their chances here as they know Bayern Munich have some problems. They are also struggling in their domestic league as they are only in tenth spot at the moment. They did started the season well with a win in the Super Cup. After that they won and drew in the league. Since then they experienced back to back losses and the defeat by St. Truiden at home was totally unexpected as well as the draw with Gent.
In their last match at home they had huge problems against Lokeren at home. They were behind 2-1 in that match and managed to come back towards the end of the match after Teodrczyk scored the winning goal in the last minute. After the draw with Gent, Coach Weiler made some changes to the side with the hope to turn things around in the side. Stopper Kara is injured and he will miss this match, while two Romanian international players Stanciu and Chipciu will likely get to start this match from the beginning.
Past Meetings:
The two teams met the last time in the Europa League 2008 and Anderlecht won in Munich 2-1 but that was after Bayern Munich ahd won 5-0 in Brussels.
